Nintendo is trying to explain it as "We. As in us, together" ...
I would like to know what type of names they turned DOWN to accept that >.<
As for my avatar... are you sure it blinked? Maybe you are just tired... or deranged. Stare at it some more. Maybe your mind will make it blink again?

Oh. Then why not spell it "We?" I personally think that the Revolution is a much more interesting and fitting name.
Y-yeah... i'm pretty sure it blinked... *doll blinks* *Shippochan falls out of chair again*

They called it "Wii" to be "different". Also to rip off apple's success with the iPod. (They use the same "i" as the iPod brand).
And you are both insane. There is no blinking. It's all in your head. ^_~

It's called "Wii" in japan too. Just as the gamecube was. The main reason they named it "Wii" is because some people in other countrys couldn't pronounce "gamecube" as for several other english based names. The revoloution would be insanley hard for people in other contries to pronounce.
Besides, there are many silly names out there that people have over come. Take google for instance. I'm going to "google" [insert name here]. Tell me with a straight face that does not sound sexual.
Nintendo's systems have always been top of the line. I've notice that my PS2 lags a lot. My gamecube? Never. I get disk read errors from my PS2 ocassionly. Not with my gamecube. If you delete data on a memory card while certain other games dats is on (example soul calibur 3) it becomes corrupt. Gamecube never had those problems. If the gamecube was that great, imagine how wonderful the Wii will be. It would be a shame to never get it just because of a name.
Wii has to be the best name any game company has come up with. It's sad that so many people make imature jokes about it and refuse to buy it. Say what you want, but I am going to get a Wii and stand proud on my desicion.

If you spoke another language and tried to say "playstation" it might come out like this. Prhaehethon. Or "gameboy" gombeh. But no matter what language you speak, you can always say Wii.

Hmm... Wouldn't it be...
Puraisutaitionu?
and
Gaimboi?
Well... hmm...
Lebolutionu. Waah. That's hard. I guess your right. But I still don't think it would be the best name.

I'm sorry, but the name 'Wii' opens itself up to waaaay too many jokes. If you want elaboration, look at any one of the many gamer webcomics out there.
Anyway... my first love for videogames was the PC. And still, I must say that I'm a PC gamer first, a Gamecube player second, and everything else on the side ('cept X-box. My hands aren't big enough for the controls XD).
So... yeah. Black & White is one of my favorites. I'm itching to get my hands on Spore, even though it's not coming out 'til February. Love the War/Starcraft series, of course. Heck, I'll even play any one of the whatever-trails! I only really play Guild Wars of the online games ('cause I'm poor. Or possibley cheap). Has anyone plays Psychonaughts? I just got it, and I can't use it on this system ;_;. Curse you, Windows 98!

Nope...never played it.
Has anyone played the RPG game Arcanum for the PC? Its the only game I've ever played that is a blend of magic and technolgy. Where you can be a powerful mage or a technologist....or a thief, but I couldn't function very well during the night sequences because my computer screen was too dark.

Oh wow....I loved that game as well. If I ever settle down and buy a playstation I will get that game. I never got to finish it either. I got to the last bit and then the memory card deleted my game. I was sad, but not in the mood to play all over again.
Anyone play Breath of fire 4? I've never played it myself, but enjoyed 3 so much that 4 has me curious.

I rented BoF 4 way back in the day. If I remember correctly (which is always doubtful), it wasn't nearly as much fun as 3. : (
Have any of ya'll heard the news about who's going to be in the next Super Smash Bros. game?

Back in the day? How old is it? Thats too bad that it wasn't as good. My favorite RP was Star Ocean 2. It was the most detailed I ever played and had a wonderful, if a bit slow, customizing tool. The game had a few flaws, some of the strongest spells had awsome cinimatics but would take almost 30 seconds to complete.....which made the battle take forever when your casting the spell rapid fire.
It did have the best combat of any RP I've ever seen. Everything was simultanious with 3D battle. you could automate the characters but still shift to whomever you wanted.
Star Ocean 3 was a little dissapointing on the customizing tool. It was too complex and took too long to produce, in the end they chose to simplify it. I didn't get to finish the game, I really want to eventualy because it was great.

I forget exactly when it came out, but it was a couple years back at least.
Quee! Star Ocean 2 is the bestest ever! ...Well, except the super-charged final boss, hee hee. But still, it's hard not to like a game with literally over 100 possible endings.

No kidding. And there is so much to that game. I mean I had the strategy guide and there was so much to do. I do wish the customizable thing went a little faster, but that had the best customizable theme I've ever seen. Plus great characters, I mean characters you really care for. There is even a cartoon based on it. I haven't seen it myself, but I did see a small clip. I found the enemy boss too easy. My bad for taking a very long side trip to a mysterious cave that was super difficult with the most powerful weapons and magic and enemies that made the main enemy boss look like a weakling. I wouldn't mind playing it again. Daggertooth

And the controller design is, like, exactly the same. At least make it LOOK different. ._o I mean, seriously. Put some effort into it. Oh, wait. Never mind. =3 We're talking about the PlayStation.

Stonetrike, your definition of "proof" is very.....odd. Do you really expect anyone to accept a smear campaign from Nintendo enthusiasts as proof or even anything substantial against the PS3?
The worst part of that is it showed random clips of the slow part of games. All games have that. A person could easily make one for Wii or 360. The idea that you wanted to show that as meaningful is disturbing considering your claim as a game lover.
The only thing that makes the PS3 a little less competitive is the $600 price tag. Thats the top end of the spectrum. $500 being on the low end and being only about $100 above the 360. Claiming you can get the two other systems for the price of one is complete BS.
Now it is true that the PS3 is not debuing with that many games. But it does have a backlog of literally hundreds of games that should work faster with better graphics for the system. To top that off there are still games about to come out for the PS2 which will work better for the PS3. X-box and Game Cube have been dead for a while concerning new game production. So its not like the PS3 is not getting anything.
So PS3 is far from screwed. I think they may be a little less competitive but they do have a lot to go on. Will they be able to beat Nintendo's horrid pick for a name? Maybe, the more I hear the name the less I dislike it. Can it beat the 360's power supply problem/recall and it's tragic performance in Japan? Probably actually.
If you ask me, the price will make a difference. But not one that will cut too greatly into the PS3's popularity. People will over come Wii's name and if your big on the over used game titles of metroid, zelda, and mario...well you will enjoy the Wii. X-box will do worse but will hold its own in the American market. It'll be interesting to see how this new generation of game consoles fight it out.

Daggertooth, that was ment as a joke. My bad....I thought saying the system was screwed in two closely placed posts with this link being the only reasoning stated, as "proof", was serious. Forgive me for thinking you might try to back up your thinking with...something. And it wasn't from nintendo either. Thats cool. I never said it was. I'm actually pretty offended that you'd think I'd use a funny clip like that in my argument at all. I thought you'd at least use something. Did I expect too much? You also seem to be getting offended alot today. I suggest you chill a little. The reason the PS3 is going to fail is because it's stale. It has nothing going for it other than graphics and graphics don't matter in the slightest if you ask me. Okay this surprises me. You play a ton of games but claim that graphic don't matter to you. They often make or break a game or system. They have their own category in reviews. They are some of the most defining features that make a game desirable. I suppose if you personally don't care about them then thats your call, fortunately the world over finds that graphics is one of the most important aspects to any console or game. Thats not the "only" thing going for it. But it "is" something that makes the system appealing. May I point out that both Microsoft and Sony have complimented the Wii in an attempt to take out the other. I plan on getting a Wii and possibly a 360 but I see no reason to buy a PS3. You can point out whatever you wish, doesn't make the other systems non-competitive. The 360 has it's amazing online play and the Wii has made a huge leap in the possibilities of gaming. But what does the PS3 have going for it? Nothing new. It's a tiny expansion onto the PS2 with a 600 dollar pricetag. The Wii is currently the most anticipated system. Heres the facts from a friend of mine who actually knows what he's talking about: With the backlog of thousands of games the PS3 has and the new better graphics, Assuming the PS2 to PS3 shows quality difference in games similar to the PS1 games played on PS2, there is quite a bit going for it. Is the Wii a good system? Yes, though spec wise it may not be huge it does sport very familiar games and is catering to a younger croud and trying to reach the non-gamers. Overdone genra's like metroid, zelda, and mario are still staples and have thier fans. Frankly the system would be great just for smashbrothers. Is the 360 a good system? It can be....hopefully for more than just halo. I'm not sure how it will overcome the flop in Japan but it seems to have recovered decently from its recall of damaged merchandise. Too early to tell. Not many games but some good ones. It will give the other systems a run for its money but I think will lag a bit in the end. The PS3 will give the others a run for its money but I do think its targeting the more hard core gamer. The ones who are willing to invest in that kind of technology and gameplay. The price will be a bit much for some, but it has its nitch and I think will solidly hold its own. Daggertooth
