A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting on the bus, going to campus. My mind wanders sometimes, sitting around on the bus and all. Suddenly, a thought occured to me. Know what would be awesome? Vampirates! They could pillage and attack at night when no one is suspecting....
Later on that day, I was telling my friends how awesome a vampirate would be. My friend pointed out I wasn't the first to come up with vampirates, there was a webcomic and a book series. (And another webcomic and a website that hasn't been updated since 2004) So of course, I had to start reading Charby the Vampirate!!
So yeah. How many other people thought they were first to come up with vampirates and found this comic instead? ;D

Boy, I wish I had thought up the word "vampirate" on my own! That's clever, really clever. I just wandered mindlessly onto Drunk Duck because it had a top ten list of webcomics. I wasn't going to click on Charby, but that would've been the mistake of my life! I decided what the heck, I have a spring break to kill, so I saw the first amazing panel, and spent the next three days reading through the archives. :D I've been a Charby addict since then. I'm really curious as to how all of you guys found the comic?

I married the author and well, she just won't stop talking about it.

Yeah, you would kinda tend to know about it after that. As for my story, it's not particularly interesting. My friend started posted some of her comics on DrunkDuck. I poked around the site a bit, but didn't read Charby for a few weeks. The thumbnail then became a close-up of Quixoto's eye, and it made me extremely curious. I'm very glad that I did go and check it out!

I used to do a vampire-centric webcomic on Drunk Duck-that didn't get very far, AND I was reading Elijah and Azuu. Then Inkmonkey mentioned once that a comic called Charby The Vampirate was doing a crossover thing and I....ignored it. (Fooled you.)
Later on, I was randomly looking at the comics of DD, looking for an awesome new one to look at, and lo and behold, there was this strange comic called Charby the Vampirate that was up near the top of the popularity list, and the art looked amazing so I figured I'd check it out. And here I am.

I'm pretty sure that I randomly clicked on a link from belfry comic index. I saw the name and decided to give it a go. And I'm an enormous nerd when it comes to online comics, with my total reading list at somewhere around 300-400 (not checked daily, just the total list of comics that I've ever read).

Ahahaha... I first spotted the comic when it first started back in 2004, but, at that time, I was rather young as well as obsessive about the whole anime style, and was unimpressed by the art and didn't even bother to check the content. However, as I continued to explore Drunk Duck, I noticed Charby moving higher in the ranks, I clicked on the link, and the rest is history.

My brother is a webcomic fanatic and he introduced me to UIU thinking I might like it (I simply adore UIU, thanks to him). And from there on I started researching all of Amelius's work and of course I stumbled on CTV and I fell in love with it.

I actually didn't like Charby when I first read it. ^^; I was more interested in UIU (Amy's heart just stopped and she doesn't know why...) But then I finally got around to reading the entire archives for Charby and I fell in love with it. I mean, I had read from the party upwards for awhile because the sheer amount of archives was daunting and Amy was always talking about how horrible the earlier pages were which lead me to believe they weren't critical to the story so I pretty much ignored them. Anyway, as I said, I read from page one all the way to the current page of the time (it was 800+, quite a read that took me three days, I think, because of my limited computer access) and now I love it even moar. :'D
And no, I never considered that one could make a vampirate.

Well, one day, my brother told me about stumbleupon. The randomness of finding CTV through stumbleupon alone is enough to make the odds of finding it extremely low, but CTV wasn't actually the first comic I saw here. The first comic I read on DD was Unsound of Mind, if I recall correctly(Either that or Vice and Virtue). And then I was lucky enough to have the curiosity to explore the site further. And still my curiosity proved to lead me to the best danged webcomic I ever did see. I remember it well. On the home page I saw a list... a list of the current top ten webcomics. My eye was caught by some bright colors and an odd looking creature I would be glad to come to know as a Scottodino. With the first page I saw, I knew I had unearthed something marvelous. Something about the incredible uniqueness of it. The werewolf, little demon, and the young witch... It was as if something from one of my childhood dreams had been written. Indeed it was magical, and I do not mean it in the sense that so many of the characters are. It was love at first sight, but I didn't even know then how truly astounding CTV was. So, having it fixed in my mind that I must explore the story of these characters, I went back to the beginning. What a great way to introduce me to the webcomic. A humorous comment from the author, but with so much more laughs to remain. Complete random chance decided to give me a sample of what DD has to offer and my own intrigue made the most out of the situation. The most indeed, for I see nothing more possible. ;D
And as for "vampirate", I did come up with it many years ago, but didn't think to implement it in any way, nor did I think to find whether it'd been used before.

That day I checked on the newest page of 'Gemini' on DD and then went on the front page. I looked aimlessly at the front page for a couple of minutes and then started reading the comic's names and their description. CTV's title got the better out of me and I checked it out xD To be truthful, the first 100-200 pages I didn't know what the heck I was reading, thinking that those were going to be one-shots xD Then it got to the good part and I spent the next 3 weeks going over and over and over, over the CTV archive XD

Wow. I wish I'd known CTV long enough to forget how I found it. Then again, I don't think I'd let myself forget.

I was on a TV Tropes splurge (where I go to check one thing out on TV Tropes, then end up with about 8+ tabs worth of different Trope pages five minutes later. It only gets worse from there) I think I was on either 'Heroic Sociopath' or 'Comedic Sociopathy'. Or maybe it was something like 'Normal Bad@$$' but in any case, one of those pages mentioned 'Charby the Vampirate' in the webcomics section. Now, why I WAS looking at the webcomics section, I'm not sure. Because I don't really follow webcomics. (Shock, I know) Maybe I was looking for Dr. McNinja, the only other webcomic I follow.
But, anyway, I saw this 'Charby the Vampirate' and was curious. I clicked on the link, and read the page. In the page there was a link to one of the more recent pages of CTV, specifically, the page of the party where Vic kicks Quixoto's face in at the party. I read the rest of the page, and then moved on to CTV. The end. Wow... so much extra information...

Can't remember properly. I got sick of VG cats not updating and started looking for another daily fix (yes, I only read one comic). Eventually I found a few others. I bounced off the duck a few times, but they weren't really interesting comics. I remember trying to avoid vampire comics (religious thing, rather dumb given my situation at the time.). I think the page I read only moderately impressed me, so I favourited it while I raided half a dozen other comics. I got back to it a few days later, clicked the 'beginning' button as I allways do with new comics and was hooked instantly. Pirate days is still my favourite arc. Also, in-spite of Amy's best efforts, I still prefer the earlier random comics to most of the newer ones. I spent about three days staying up a lot later than I usually do (I was a zombie at work), reading the archives. The archives really add a lot to a story.

Cookie for the fellow Dr. McNinja fan.
And I know what you mean nightreflection. The random one shot comics were what got me hooked, but, for me, the plot development is what KEPT me hooked. Now, I do miss those sillier pages, but I'd much rather have the depth we have now. I read over 50 webcomics and very few have the balance CTV does. Most are monotonous; either nothing but one shots or nothing but serious plot. CTV sort of "grew up" and that's part of what makes it so unique. But I also think that because the archives were able to be read, almost every page in and of themselves, the tension of having to wait for plot continuation was eliminated. Plus you can now read it without having to wait anyway.

Yay cookie!~
Personally, the stand-alone pages sort of bored me. Don't get me wrong, I do like Amy's sense of humor, and she is very funny, but when you've got page after page of her almost... I wanna say... FORCING herself to be funny, it's not that funny. In the more plot-oriented pages, it's not all about the humor set up, the humor happens more naturally, and when it isn't side-splitting, the page is still quite sucessful, because it's also got plot-content.

I see your point. Whether or not the humor was forced, though, I couldn't help but laugh uncontrollably. You're right about the plot making it more interesting, though. It's certainly among the most prominent reasons I enjoy CTV.
