((Welcome to Shippo's roleplay! [sorry, invite only ])) In the town of Valdra, there is a tavern. It isn't the biggest of places, sort of run down in spots, but is often visited by many of Valdra's residents, or travelers from other places. Valdra itself is a biggish town slowly becoming a smallish city. Anyhow, one day, a curious flier appeared on the door of the tavern. It read: "WANTED: BODYGUARD(s) WILL PAY GOOD MONEY" Underneath this heading, was a black and white picture of a sweet looking female with black hair that reached down to her short sleeves. A large, dark scarf was tied around her neck, and a bandana of the same shade covered her head. She was smiling at the camera, and holding a key in her hand, which was adorned with a light colored stone. Under this picture was a short job description which read: "Hello! I am Nezumi! I wish to have bodyguards to assist me on my next mission! I wish to obtain a mysterious magical item from Mount Fukashigi. If I find no intrest in the item, you might even have the honor of keeping it! Anyway, this will be a pretty dangerous mission, but if you want money, a chance at a magical item, or just a challenge, please talk to the tavern man about this add! Thank you!" This notice was signed with a cute little signature: "Nezumi," with a little heart for the dot of the 'i.' Inside, Nezumi sat at a table, drinking hot chocolate out of a mug, waiting to see who the first of her beautiful little party would be <3!

Koumori was tired. It had been a long day, after all... She had been working since the sun had come up. Luckily, not many of the denizens she had met in this city had noticed her constant aura of dark magic, and had quite enjoyed her little... Magic show. It was allway simple stuff with these people. Conjuring fireballs and puffs of smoke. Producing lumps of coal out of stone. For the most part, it was really quite demeaning, but she needed the money. Today's work had been slow... And her ears were getting rather uncomfortable, folded up inside her hood. Luckily, no one had noticed.
Presently, she came apon a small tavern with a flier tacked to the front door. Heh. Bodyguards... She knew she would probably be usefull in such a case, even if she wasn't strong at all. Physically at least. She had just gotten to this city this morning, as her previous crowd had gotten suspicious of her reclusive ways... She hated the bustle of busy streets, but also knew that she desperately needed to be in a city to remain unnoticed. Maybe with this new job, she could getaway with her ears. You fonud all sorts in the mercenary buisness...
She pushed open the door silently, and stepped inside, keeping her hood up. Just in case.

About a mile out of the small town, in the company of a copse of tall, silvery willow trees, a most odd spectacle was to be seen. A slight shimmer in the air, almost like the air above a fire, but more substantial, hovered about a foot above the tall, brown-green grass. A squirrel stared with curiosity from one of the trees, but scampered away as a hand reached inquiringly through the portal. A be-capped head peeked out, looked around, then the portal grew until it was about 5 feet tall. The head reappeared with the rest of the body, and the girl stepped out. The portal shriveled and shrank until it was gone, and the girl smiled at another successful dimension hopping.
Chantre started towards the city, following a well-worn dirt path to the first of the buildings, looking around for a place to stay. The last dimension she had visited was very unhospitable, and she hadn't had a decent night's sleep for several months. As she was beginning to despair, the girl finally saw a tavern; fairly small, a bit rundown, but looking to be of good quality. She started for the door, smiling happily, but a piece of paper caught her attention. She stared at it for a moment, scratched her head, pulled her beret properly askew, then walked through the doors, ready for adventure.

Endorphin had been wandering around the city for a couple days, lurking in the more unsavory alleys and picking off drunks and low-life every now and then. He wasn't exactly sure why he had the cumpulsion to lurk in the shadows of these filthy whelp-killers, but whenever he was near a city, he had to go check everything out.
He stopped outside the door of a pub and sniffed at the poster. It smelled of many things - but also of opportunity. A female creature had put it there, needing help for... something. Not entirely clear. But there was a hint of reward to it. Interesting. He shrugged and stepped into the bar, tilting his head as if he were looking around.

Koumori raised a pale, slender eyebrow at Endorphin's entrance. The creature had a rather strong aura of dark enery about him. Maybe he was a fellow mage- no. The magic about him was... Untamed. Irregular. This one was most certainly a curiousity. She would pry into it later, she knew, but for now, it would be best not to catch anyone's attention.
She shuddered at the noises of the tavern. They really hurt. They reminded her of her days in school when people would sneak up behind her and shout into her extremely sensitive ears. This had usually resulted in her hissing and leaping into a defensive position, usually lighting something on fire in the prcoess. She had lost many good books that way...
Whatever. She walked matter-a-factly towards the table where 'Nezumi' was sitting, and with a bow that was little more than a sharp nod of the head, she sat down.

Head wrapped in rags so that only his yellow eyes peered out, dark green cloak hanging off his broad shoulders, the oversized humanoid thing slumped along the street with a stride that made him look less like a human and more like a pack animal that carried a burden too heavy for it.
At one time the creature that went by the name Rehiro had led a powerfull band of demons in the Land of Demons and had been known as the "ideal demon". Now he was an outcast that carried the Mark of Shame on his face that couldnt get a job because nobody would hire a person with the Mark, even in this so called "Land Beyond".
Strapped on his back was a large sheathed sword and what looked like a small log that was coated with jagged steel at one end. His clothes and weapons were stolen off of a band of mercenaries who had taken to agrivating him. But the absence of the primitive animal skins that he had brought from the other land did nothing to hide his oddness.
His eyes moving over his surroundings, not particularly sure what they were looking for, landed on a flier. It took him a bit to read, because it was only reletively recent that he had become literate, but being a quick study, he managed it.
Well... he didnt care for money or magical items but somebody looking for a bodygaurd was probably looking for a competent thug, and perhaps wouldnt care about the Mark. He didnt need to rationalize anything anymore... because nothing seemed rational.
He lurched through the door.
OOC: Naming myself after a character was a baaaaad idea. Especially to this guy.

((That's okay, wolfchild))
Nezumi smiled at the newcomer.
"Why hello! Are you here about the flier?" She promptly stood, and held out her hand for Koumori to shake.
"I'm Nezumi!" She said brightly, her voice dripping with sweetness.

((I swear, I didn't mean to alliterate, I'm sorry!)) Chantre glanced around the tavern, and saw the sickeningly sweetly smiling girl from the poster greeting a hooded figure, and started for the table. "Uh, excuse me, ma'am-um, were you the person who wanted the bodygaurds? Because I'd like to apply, if you thought you needed me or anything..." she said, trying to talk over the mysterious person, embarrassed blush blotching her tan cheeks.

"Sure! I'm always glad to have help! What's your name?" Nezumi made sure to keep part of her attention on the strange hooded girl, turning so that she could see both of them, still holding her hand out to Koumori so that she wouldn't seem like an awful clod!

"Ummm, lemme see... Shan... Shuh..." The poor girl thought for a moment; she hadn't had almost any sleep for a week. Suddenly, she lit up, pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket, looked at it, and put it away. "That's right, Chantre! My name's Chantre, nice to meet you! Sorry, I reeeeeeally need some sleep. When are we leaving? Hi, nice to meet you!" She smiled at the woman next to her.

Koumori shook Nezumi's hand lightly, and her skin was cold. It was an almost mechanical handshake, as though it had been studied and mapped out before it was actually performed. "My name is Koumori," she nearly hissed, "Indeed, I am here for the flier." there was something... Wrong with how cheery this Nezumi was. It was immensly disconcerting. Koumori hated being around cheery people... But she needed the job.

"Um, ok, K-Koumori..." Chantre subsided into uncomfortable silence. She had a feeling this trip wouldn't be very pleasant if this... living statue was going to be her only other companion. Luckily, she could see at least two other people walking into the tavern who looked like they weren't looking for a place to stay or alchohol.

Endorphin noted the conversation between the three females, recognizing one as the person who had put up the notice. No point rushing in. He slouched into an empty seat in the bar and took a double handful of pretzals from the free snacks offered. He ignored the Look the bartender was giving him, and instead concentrated on the conversation. Interesting. One was definately a magic-user of some sort. The other was just... odd. She smelled tired. In different cicumstances, he would consider her perfect prey. There was a large male demon in the bar as well - seemed like a thug type. He made a mental note to keep some attention on him, as well.

"Well, very nice to meet you two! I certainly hope that you two aren't the only ones answering my request! Oh, just to make sure, are you two prepared for a very dangerous journey to an unknown place? Prepared to--" Nezumi struck a dramatically demure pose,"protect me with everything you've got?" Nezumi noticed the coldness of Koumori's aura, scanning it with her large eyes. Hmm... Dark magic? Useful! Chantre's aura was just... weird. The man devouring pretzals had a strange aura, as well! ((Ooo! Nezu-chan can read auras ))

Koumori sighed, allready exasperated with the melodramatic human and her hideously cheery energy. "As you will." Wait- as you will? Damn! Now she was bound by her word. Curses. Might as well finish committing... She lowered her voice so that it was even more quiet than normal. She didn't want people overhearing. "I am a practitioner of the arcane arts. I would -gk- love to serve and protect you on your quest." It hurt her inside to speak like this. It was far against her nature.

Endorphin crunched a pretzal loudly and grinned. So, it was bodygaurds the girl wanted? Well he could certainly guard her body. But if she wanted it all in one piece, well... obviously, he was wasting his time. Adventures weren't his thing, especially with a bunch of blabbering female clan-wreckers. His mind made up, he grabbed the rest of the pretzals and stood, making his way towards the door.

Nezumi made a little bow.
"Thank you, Koumori! Just a minute, you two!"
Nezumi pranced (there's no other word for the way she walks >_<) up behind Endophin.
"Excuse me, sir! Are you interested in offering out protection services? I am willing to pay in just about anything, (eying the pretzal crumbs on his hands) even in pretzals. Anyway, are you interested? I could use a guy as strong-looking as you!" Nezumi gave her most alluring smile, a smile that could make a paper boy drop his merchandise all over the sidewalk.

Ugh. She even prances. Look her, grinning like a cheshire cat. Gods dammit... Why did I agree to this?
Even her voice had an irritating, bubbly quality that made Koumori want to cast a spell of silence, or preferably a well aimed fireball. Heheh.

Chantre looked doubtfully at her flirty employer for a moment, then went to the keeper to ask for a room. She was so tired she might fall over, but she remembered to leave a note on a napkin back at the table they were at previously. "Gone to get a room so that I don't fall down from exhaustion before we leave. I'll be in the door at the end of the hall if ya need me. Lot's 'o love, Chantre." She drew a sloppy heart next to her name, went to her room, and literally collapsed on the small, scratchy cot that smelt of sour milk. Luckily, due to her magical nature, she didn't have to rest long to completely recuperate, only an hour or so, but during that time, a nuklear war wouldn't come close to waking her up.

Endorphin treated the female to a disaffected glower. "What makes you think I'm interested?" He snapped. "Bah, foolish quest." He sniffed and turned his back on her sharply, making his way to the exit.
((Sorry, Shippo! That tactic won't work on Dorph. Not only can he not see the smile, his kind don't even have a sex drive unless they're fasting. Don't ask, these things just pop into my head...))

((His names Krowin now. It was the first name that he aquired, but he changed it to Rehiro when he ascended to the thrown. This way I can be like him back when he was cool, and not when hes being all depressive and whiney and stuff. Better yet, he tried to be as cool as me when he was leader, but he wasnt.))
"I'd be interested" the masked, cloaked creature growled. He was irritated that even in the body gaurding business, where Mark meant nothing, the girl had obviously avoided him.

"Ooo! Didn't see you there! Hmm..." She peered at this man. His aura was strong, but kind of odd... "You seem pretty strong! What's your name? Oh, and that question's directed at you too, Mr. Pretzal Man!" ((Shoulda known that Dorphy wouldn't be tricked like that.... Oh well, that doesn't stop Nezumi ^^ )

Rather irritated by this point, Endorphin spun around and snarled, "Endorphin, your personal natural painkiller. Leave me alone, or I may be tempted to give a little demonstration." Stupid girl. Stupid quest. Whatever the hell they were looking for, it was none of his concern.

(("Rehiro" is now the title of the ruling leader of Krowins tribe. So he was Rehiro at one time, but only in the way that all the leaders were. Im going to give him hallucinations now too. Its what gave him that edge when he was planning battle strategies. He's got buddy's inside his head who gave him a hand. Also, im going to make him more powerfull if thats all right. He's gonna be like some type of energy conductor. Works with fire and electricity. But he's not good with his powers 'cause he was never trained or had much time to practice. Sorry, im going through character developement before I make him do anything that would force me to leave him in a way that I wouldnt like. Also, right now, the cloak is drawn all around him, so he's just a big cloaked shape with a masked head))
"Didnt see me there..." Krowin muttered "now your just trying not to get killed" he was so certain that his legends had reached here. Of course they had not "I dont care. Im much too depressed to kill anyone today anyway...".

Endorphin snorted indelicately. "Pay, the female says. The money of herd-scatterers means nothing to me." He leered at the new male. Too full of himself, if he thought he could kill so indescriminately.

"Werent you even listening?" Krowin asked of Endorphin "she said that she would pay in just about anything! So if you dont like the 'money of herd scatterers' then just think about what she might give you instead. Was I correct in thinking that you wanted to eat her? Well, why not take that as payment? In my land, we'd've just eaten her if we felt like it, but in this beautiful land of law, things work differently and now she's legally tied to offer herself to you" he smirked under the head scarf "in any way that you want. Need a slave to do whatever you say without question?"

"Hey, man, I said almost anything. I know these 'beautiful laws' better than just about anyone. Oh, but are YOU interested? I'll have to ask you to not kill me, but I'm sure we can arange a deal! Oh, and yes, Mr. Endorphin, I will pay in almost anything."
Nezumi seemed almost angry for a second, and then immidiately regained her composure. But her smile was now only a thin line.
