You know that spammer on the forum? He's been sending me his signature spam in email form exept the links don't work because he's using forum coding. Anyone else receiving these?

And no, I have not been experiancing these emails. Anyone else?
Do the tech staff have a possible solution to this terrible problem?

Well, I can remove the option to send members email... But I'm not sure if that will work... I mean, what's next? IM spamming? I'll take that measure if you want me to...

Well... is it a wide-spread problem? Or is only one person affected?
It might just be you visited the wrong site at some point in time and completely un-related to our spammer. But I honestly have no idea what I am talking about in this and so I shall silence myself before I make a bigger fool of myself ^___^

There's much worse spam emails out there. Believe me. It's a hell of a thing to wake up and be greeted with "You have 4,868 new emails in your inbox".

You don't have a spam-filter? That's brutal @.@ I'd switch email addresses if that happened more than once. >.<! Hate spam!

Well, it was only once, fortunately. It was part of a series of bad attacks by a spambot on the HRWiki... This one used the MediaWiki "Email This User" feature to mail password reminders for people's accounts. They locked the feature for a while until they could write some code to not let it happen again.

gmail has a spam filter so they have always been sent to the spam section. At first I thought it was someone trying to send me a virus, but there was no attachment. On closer inspection, I recognised it was forum code! So, yeah it's not a big deal thanks to gmail but just thought I'd warn you guys. On a side note, I have 99 invites at my disposal. Anybody want one?

Gmail. It's a sort of exclusive email made by google. You don't have to delete your old emails unless you want too, because they get archived. It's got so many other nifty features. But the only way to get an adress is to get an invite from someone else.

I have both hotmail and Gmail...been trying to keep the former with buisness and random sign ups and the latter with friends. I don't get any spam in my Gmail, but that might be because it isn't used extensively. Thats not incliding friends sending random chain mail. Hotmail gets alot of spam and I just use the deleate all feature, I have to do that every so often as I still get about five spam a day.
As far as I know none of the spam has been related to this site or those evil spammongers.

Alright, here's the dealie-o (...I promise I'll never say that again...) as far as I can tell. I think that locking down the email and IM functions for the time being is the best option available. Unfortuantely, I don't have that power. I'm not an 'admin', just a moderator. As such, there are a whole bunch of higher-level commands for this kind of stuff that I can't touch. I'm going to get in touch with Amelius and either get her to temporarily make me an admin, or instruct her on what to do so she can make these changes herself. Stay tuned for further developments.
