I think it's a bot myself... It is rather annoying, mostly coz it stretches the Recent Posts list.

Me, I hate it most coz I can't do anything about it except make stupid comments... It seems the next-best solution. I'm just not used to not being able to delete spam and such... Most other sites I can, being either a member of a wiki or an admin (in a rare case). =)

Wiki?
If this had been gaia the reason would been to get gold, but there is no benefits only making my life miserable among other poor moderators! T_T

Wiki. It's from the Hawaiian wikiwiki, which means "quick". It refers to the quickness of editing. You don't even need to register to edit. It's a site, usually encyclopedic in nature, that anyone can edit. Any vandalism is easily reverted. I do a lot of vandal-fighting there, which is why it bothers me to not be able to do it here.
And you're quite right. There's no reason, which is why I think it's a bot.

Yeah, But it wouldnt make the forum as open as it is now. I think the major member boost is cuz of the guest thing.. maybe

Judging from the fact that they all appear to be links, I'm guessing it's just advertising, like most spam.

Ya know what youse guys (the admin population) could do? You could ban guests from POSTING, not from viewing. It would solve problemas!

I don't think ProBoards has a look-but-don't-touch mode... That's what made it not so good last time.

So it's not some strange code or something. It truly is spam. It comes up as Kanji and numbers to me....I can't make heads or tails of it but can understand how annoing it may be...specialy if it comes often.

Sorry, Shippo, we actually can't have it so guests can read but not post. Proboards, unfortunately, does not have that function. In order for us to have that function we would have to move forums. I don't think anyone wants to do that. It would mean loosing all the wealth of posts we have here -- as well as our post count etc.
I too am frusterated by this. But I guess that's what the moderators are here for. It's our job to work together to combat the spammer. We've all tried banning that IP... unfortunately the spammer has a dynamic IP and thus cannot be banned that way. There really is nothing we can do except keep on patiently deleting stuff.
I mean, we could make it so you have to register to get to the forums... but that seems kind of cruel to the guests. There are four moderators on this forum. Working together, we should be able to handle the spammers quite easily.
So, while it is highly irritating. It isn't out of hand. Zolah, if it bothers you, leave the spam to Momo and I for a bit. We should be able to take care of it.
The moderators do check the forums regularly, and we try to keep on top of the spammers as best we can. Be patient with us when we don't get to it right away though. We have lives too.

Yes, very much so. ^^ It's just a shame that this forum is even being targeted. ...or that spammers exist.

Indeedy, I wish there was another way to get around it too...but in the meantime I have the fabulous moderators to thank for all the awesome work they've been doing, I try to get in here as often as possible too, and just a moment ago I had to remove some more spam...hopefully the format of the spam sticks to the one I just deleted, it wasn't stretching the page for once. I'll try to look at the good side of the bad for that one ^_^

I. Hate. Spam. However, deleting it does give me a small sense of 'take that!' satisfaction. And I'd like to publicly thank Darkfire Taimatsu for alerting me to spam on MSN when I'm doing other things. However much I hate it, deleting spam is part of my job as a moderator (even moreso as a technical-specialist moderator) and I do it proudly.
