Please help me, I THINK I've done something extraordinarily stupid, and now my computer doesn't get any sound. At all. No, sounds do not come from the speakers or the headphones, but I do get beeping noises when I press 'caps lock' or something. When I try to adjust the volume, all of the bars turn up grey and I can't manipulate anything. I've tried reinstalling all the Microsoft CDs that look like they have something to do with sound, but nothing's working. Can anyone help me?

I think you muted your computer.
Try going to control panel. Sound and audio devices.

Maybe the speakers stopped working.

Alright, it says it doesn't really HAVE any 'audio devices.' Hmm, speakers not working... That might be it. Oh joy, I get new speakers!

This might seem a silly bit of advise... But it's helped quite a number of people I know X.x.
Are your speakers plugged in/turned on? And are your headphones plugged in?

I'm afraid I already tried that. And when I turn my speakers on and off manually, I can see the light and I can hear the static in them.

Sounds like more of a soundcard problem to me. Did you get one seperately, or is it just the onboard sound that you've been using? Find out what you have, then try reinstalling the sound drivers...unless that's what you've already done. If you got a seperate soundcard with the computer you'll likely have a CD with the drivers for it somewhere. Or you might find some drivers for it on its website.

Fixed it. I had to go to a computer expert for it, but he was really really cool. His name is Troll, and he was able to fix everything in about an hour, AND taught me what to do if I ever needed to do this again. Now I can finally listen to the new music of my newly bought The Sims 2 Pets!
