Endorphin snorted and stood up. He didn't seem to mind that he was covered in blood. Behind him, al that was left were a couple stripped, discarded bones. The feral gleam behind his eyes had lessened, but his hunger had only been dulled, not satiated. In this town, with these people, it probably never would be. Not until he had devoured evey last one of them.
But not now. He stepped forward, back to his position at the outskirts of the group.

(Haruko likes all women ^^ ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/632174/images/cKqeMkGehVGWSlU0vbuI.gif) A small fox boy looked out. He gasped. "O-bah-san?" (grandmother. "O-bah-san! Keita! Come quick!" A girls face appeared next to his. "*gasp* Ahh! What happened?!" Their faces were masks of shock.

Doprh tilted his head at the two children and grunted. The children held little interest to him, now that he calmed down. The female had been old, no longer capable of bearing young, and a burden to any community. The elderly alway were. He turned away and kept walking where the others he had so foolishly had become involved with led.

The two children ran out, and sobbed by the bones.
Sukachan began to drag Nezumi down the street, and nezumi and Haruko (carrying frost) came with her.
"C'mon guys!" Nezumi called.

Chantre shifted. Tapped on the ice. Tested to see how thick it was. And she was in trouble. "Craaaaaaap..." she thought to herself. How would she escape this, without making a lot of noise? She concentrated. Especially on the tip of her pointing finger. It was hard to think in water without air when she had shifted to normal. Carefully, she touched the ice with the finger, slowly melting a small hole in the ice. Growing larger. Air! Water vapor leapt out of the barrel in joyous plumes, which were quickly blown behind a building by a sudden, conveniant breeze. Chantre almost gasped for breath as soon as she had reformed behind her new hiding place, but remembered where she was in time. Looking at the scene, she decided that this was a good time to enter the group again; they were all distracted by the cold woman and the dead lady. She stepped nonchalantly out, smiling in relief as if she had merely been relieving herself. It was also handy that she had a knack for disappearing into the backround.

(*pokes thread* ...It's dead! Defibrilator, stat!)
Frost shifted, trying to look at the children. Her eyes appeared sad, perhaps remembering something from her past? Then, the moment was gone, and her emotions were in check again. She sighed, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a book. She opened it, and started reading. The cover was black, plain, and the writing was in another language. However, despite that, it didn't look like a spell book...

The group started towards the house. Nezumi looked over her shoulder at the children as she walked.
"Did you know them, Suka-chan?"
Suka looked at her with her childish eyes.
"They threw stones at me when I went to the market sometimes... I... But I don't think their mean, I mean... It's mostly their parents. All the adults, and most of the kids hate me... But I guess... This is the only place where I sortof belong..." She looked sad, and her little tail dragged on the ground.
Haruko peered over Frost's shoulder to look in the book, still carrying her. He was curious, but he was not able to read the writing for the life of him.
"So... What are you reading?" He asked her, in a quiet voice.

Frost looked at Haruko, closing the book and keeping her place with one finger. "...it's a journal. It was a gift...from Artic," she replied, caressing the cover.

Frost was silent for a moment. "Artic is the head elemental at Cloud Tower. She trains the most powerful of the mages. ...she was my teacher..." she finally answered, her boice nearly inaudible.

The spear on his bag shifted, making a soft rustling noise in it's bag.

Endorphin grunted. While his annoyance, along with his appetite, had been dulled, this group still got under his skin. If it weren't for that artifact...
Why did he even care about a filthy weak-stomached hunter's artifact? It didn't make any sense, and it gnawed at his mind. But meanwhile, the group had not been deterred by his actions, and had not guessed at his identity. The charade must hold a little longer.

...But Koumori was curious. She had taken him as a simple demon, although his aura spoke of much more than that. His very form had seemed to shift... He had attacked an elderly fox woman, on little more premise than she had bumped into him- and then devoured her. Devoured. Hmm...

Endorphin felt mildly grateful that Devourers were not capable of shapeshifting, and that they was no known was for them to crossbreed with other species. It made hiding easier. He scowled at the batty-smelling female and pulled ahead a little, so that his bloody self was beside the group instead of behind it.

Suka pointed to an old house, clutching Nezumi's hand.
"There... There... it... i--"
"I can't here you, speak up, suka-chan." Nezumi said in a reassuring voice.
"That's the house!" She shouted, and then looked away, clenching her teeth as if she were going to recieve a blow.
Nezumi smiled.
"Why didn'cha say so?"

The pair began walking towards the house. Nezumi looked back at the group.
"You guys coming?"

Koumori jolted out of her thoughts when the fox-girl shouted, her ears pressing against her skull. The eventually came out of hiding, but she was slightly shaken. She hated loud noises... She immediately adopted her caustic glare once more, and nodded, follwing once more, slightly behind the group.
She decided that she wanted to stay away from the one who called himself 'Endorphin'.

Endorphin stood back, distain practically reeking from his posture. "Would rather sleep outside, then with vermin!" He snapped, his face twisting into an ugly snarl. His hunger was ebbed from his... snack, but the anger still bubbled beneath the surface. The loathing. He wouldn't stay in control of it forever.

haruko put her down.
"Of course..." He looked annoyed at himself, and shuffled off to stand protectively by Nezumi.
Nezumi smiled brightly.
"You can sleep out here if you want, mister Endorphin!" She said happily, and was promptly dragged into the house by the unusual strength of the tiny fox-child.

Endorphin snorted and skulked around the perimeters of the building. He found a relatively sheltered spot that would serve his purposes and flopped down on his stomach. He buried his head in his arms and ((HOMG MY PRINTER'S HERE wait a sec... where was I? Oh yeah.)) contemplated the smell of the ground.
What was wrong with him? He should be able to control himself better... no, he shouldn't have held back! He should have torn that village to the ground! The old creature. It had had whelp. Whelp... they were important? Shouldn't be killed? Maybe... that's what was messing him up.
But they killed whelp all the time! Birth was so hard for his kind, and rarely did both the babe and mother survive... then they hunted down clans and slaughtered young! Deserved to die. Should kill more. Endorphin whined to himself as he tried to sort out his confused thoughts. There was so much in his head now. It hurt to try and understand.
