Here's a pic of one of my older characters (that has made a few cameos in the demon market) done completely in colored pencil and marker (with some pen) this is actually a scan of a copy of the original drawing. someone else has it now... His name is Lucy,or Lucky, depending on who's adressing him; short for Lucifer of course, and he was part of a story I dropped long ago about a speed-demon who escapes Hell (his parents sold him to the devil for eternal life) by riding his bike really fast...and it works. he also had a cat companion and helper. I'd say this scribbling is about 7-8 years old by now? I drew a long time ago...as you can see, there is still a lot about my old style that I retained in CTV. I got the idea from seeing a lot of biker/hot rod merchandise had these crazy-looking demons with eyes bugging, riding a vehicle blazing fire and plumes of smoke...and decided to draw one on a tricycle ^_^ I was drawing a lot of weird psychotic critters at the time; from middle school on up is when I came up with characters with names like Rabies,(Charby has his eyes, he also made a cameo) Psycho and Apathy; and also when Beck the Ferret started, fueled by my penchant for violent toons. Except, it was never done in a cartoon style...he looked cartoony but died in a realistic manner. I'll post some of those soon too.

Here is an old pic of Bunny-Mye done in Bic pen and colored pencil! (which is how all my original old ones were done, and why they look so bad too ^_^) This was probably 2 pages into the start of her transformation story, and before the comic went on the web. I kinda like it so I thought I'd share. Tis not often I draw girly/happy/Disney-princess-ish drawings, so here is a rare sight indeed. the guy behind the tree was a slight inspiration for designing Vidor...but that says nothing of what relationship they have since this is a completely different guy. Plus, she has a itty-bitty little girl soul, and that's not his thing! the lil guy in the hole in the tree was another old character, Devil Squirrel, who teased dogs and threw stuff at people from his tree.

Agreed, but the tricycle guy scares the bejeepers outta me. I'm going to have nightmares where Mannick shows up at my house, and we start playing NES, and then he turns into a tricycle demon and runs over me.
I have realistic nightmares.

indeed, I've got plenty more old junk to share! (I've also gotta get to work on those other ones for you guysm but this stuff scans in fast since it's done already ^_^) Well, I'll start this off with an old image circa '95 (I know because it was in a dated folder of schoolwork!) it's just a dog. nothing spectacular other than the mohawk and piercings. He's a freaky puppy. and now for something just as old, an old, old character (probably before the dog) named Will. As I mentioned before, I used to draw these weird characters with pointy ears, and they were the direct inspiration for Hex's hairdo (and also 2 old characters, Tony and Kevin that HAD his hairdo) Can't say much about Will here, but he was a frequent character I drew back in the day, but not as much as the next one... And this happy-looking punk is Zero, whom I'm sure I have more drawings of than ANY character combined. Why? One, because I drew this character for almost 10 years, and two, I thought he was darn cool at the time. I had originally planned a comic with him but most of his adventures were best done in short storybooks like "26 things to do with roadkill" and "how to cheat at battleship" (which was actually more oriented around his buddy and housemate, J) He had four tails, and an interesting hairdo...and I always drew him with an uneven amount of hair on each side of his head (four spikes on one side, 3 on the other) Here is another old, pre-Charby demon. I always loved drawing demons, monsters and alien types. I'm not entirely sure why, but I just did. And in the same vein of topic, another beasty I drew here. I liked dangerous looking canine sorts. And now to the less threatening, another pre-Charby image,(but around the time I started getting the idea) a spork-weilding hellmonkey. Aint he cute? And even though this is previous to the monkey, I felt the need to show how much Zero changed from his earlier days. This is much closer to my current style even though this is probably 6 years old by now. i wonder what happened when I look at some of the crappy art in my archives and compare it to this (not that this is all that great anyway, just better than other things I did) and to end today's session, I leave you with a super early Menu drawing. The boy certainly filled out, didn't he? Musta been too many of those lollipops ^_^

Heyhey! I gots more old embarrassing junk to show you. Thrilled, I'm sure! Well, to start off, a drawing I found in a box under my steps. So this is oooold, and a sign of things to come back then wouldn't you say? This one's for the people that thought they knew where I got my drawing ideas (from Jhonen Vasquez/Roman Dirge) because this predates any iota of my knowledge of either artist, let alone what the term "goth comic" meant! See anything familiar in this fellow's appearance? I was pretty happy to find this. In the same folder, the first ever picture of an anime-inspired character I ever drew. I swear it, this is the first manga-type attempt I ever made, I hadn't seen an actual Japanese cartoon or comic before since my mom said they were cheap (then had to say she was a hypocrite because she loved Speedracer so much) Of course she was comparing them to classic WB cartoons that had to be high-quality, they were cinematic events and had no excuse because there was no ongoing storyline (therefore no immediate rush/deadline to meet) Needless to say I was inspired by the style and had to make my own attempt. So what was that cartoon? Heavily edited Sailor Moon, I have to admit... This guy looks nothing like it though haha (by the hair you'd think Trigun though, it wasn't!) and here's something scary, the (Edt: statement has been altered for factualness!) Second *EVER* concept for Zerlocke, back when I figured he'd just be a bigger version of Charby and all elites would have weird hair. Thankfully, I made some important changes! He's holding a heart if you cannot tell (I can't!) For those of you in dire need of senseless violence, here is a few Beck the Ferret comics from different parts of the career. I stopped doing real BTF cartoons when I started Charby, save for a few ideas (believe me I've done almost everything to the poor sap, I couldn't think of anything that didn't require more than one panel to be clear) and some college newspaper entries that got me 30 bucks each (wooyeah) You might notice a bit of fluctuation in the drawing style, because these were drawn seperate times at any point between the almost 9 years BTF has existed, and likely 3 years have gone since I drew any of these. Except the sneezing one, I did that a year ago. I took out the titles/captions in some since it's pretty obvious what's happening and I didn't have clever puns to accompany them. (What, bats get in your hair? Only worry if it's this bat) (Bless you!) (tasty. See where the stuff in came from?!) (someone should really keep an eye on Billy...) (It happens...) Hope that was an interesting journey into my creative process. Basically what I've tried to point out before, a lot of what I do is rehashing my old ideas I've sketched in my many sketchbooks. I find it bizarre and fun to see how an artists style changes as they grow/practice, and I thought if any of you are like me this way you'd like to see how my artistic "critter" has evolved. I have boxes and boxes of crumpled scribbles to show just that. ^_^

Awesome! I love seeing that, too, Amy. For some reason I especially love the demon/alien thing with bird wings. That's so cool! That could be a random T-shirt...
