Hey guys! First off, I'd like to say that I really appreciate feedback and I'm not offended when someone says something looks a little off. Just expect me to want to nitpick and fix it when it's brought up! I want this comic to be the best possible experience, and though the writing is what i care about most I want the visuals to be up to par as well.
so I whipped up another version, it was really only a half hour's time to fix things, but I noticed a few minor details that had escaped my notice as the time I was working on the pages started to wear down.
Here's the older version:
And the new one:
As you can see, I toned down my lighting layer considerably. I also was happy to see that something I thought had been saved over by accident actually hadn't saved at all (due to my panicked pressing of the "escape" key no doubt!) so the backgrounds aren't as blurry as they were on the other page. I darkened some areas I felt were lost to the coloring such as around the mouths. I was surprised to hear the expressions were too subdued, since I thought these were the appropriate expressions for a rather "calm" page. (I'm saving the best for last though, heh heh heh!)
Upon closer inspection I noticed that there were "cracks" in the coloration on Yiska's face, so I filled those in. Doing pencils requires me to separate all the colors onto their own layers, because I can't just "fill in" solid colors and have it fill it cleanly to the lines. Therefore everything is underneath a transparent pencil layer. Her hair and her skin were on separate layers, with the hair being the dominant layer, but her skin layer wasn't washing completely under the hair layer in a few remote areas. I also noticed before I posted the page that her lower lip in the first panel kind of made it look like she was sticking her tongue out, but I modified both that and the shape of her profile for the fix. I darkened the mouth on all the characters, and added a little more shadow to some of the panels. I didn't remove all the lighting though, I laid the darker layer over the older document and erased some parts along the skyline and highlights to try and give it more dimension.
How does it look, guys?
