"Superior?" she arches her left brow as one of the many darkfeathered birds swoops down to her shoulder for once, and cocks it's head curiously. It has a silver patchlike mark on it's right eye. Hah... Superior... What have I gotten myself into...? "It IS true that killing through pure malevolence is murder... But... I am no superior." she frowns. "Definately not..." she pauses, considering. It was true that she did not know herself... Not who she was, anyway. It was obvious that there were world appart from the one she resided in... It would only make sense. If there was this world, why shouldn't there be another? Perhaps she did come from another world... But probably not of the series of worlds of which he seldom spoke, but mentioned... She was definately not alive. Not in the least. She knew that for sure... Definately not like this... Moss. But come to that... What did she look like, really? She knew she did not have fur... Or a tail... Or horns... But looked quite human, and apparently had grey hair. Blah. Knowing his story...? How? "I know only what you have said... Moss." she turned to the fox girl, and the etique that she remembered from somewhere told her to bow slightly, with a kind of vague flourish. "Greetings... But whether the curse is false or not remains to be seen..."

Moss was horribly torn. He was growing to dislike Grey, but now she was making an effort to make peice by deflecting Sukas comment. He was beginning to like Suka, but he now felt personaly insulted. She probably wished to think that the curse was false because she did not wish to think that her sister was doomed, but the notion still remained valid, it was an insult or attack directed at Moss.
Grey had paused at his name... he hated when people did that, all humanoids seemed to have difficulty taking him seriously after he said his name, but it was the one thing he couldnt lie about, for it was all that he really had. It was the one thing he knew of his former life... if he had had a former life.
He had been feeling the insane anger well up inside him for a moment while talking to Grey, but what she and Suka said had stopped him from punching Grey in the mouth. It seemed almost proffesionally done. He was now in a depressed calm. He really did prefer the piece of the forest, but it was what had made those people die. Maybe he should leave his faith in the forest, but until he had more answers he had better go cold turkey. That technique he had used to detect Grey, was a mistake, he shouldnt have done that.
The situation was looking less opportune all the time. He decided to change the subject to more pressing matters. He sat on the gound, leening against the rock.
"To get back on topic" he said with a sigh "does anyone know the direction we're supposed to be going?"

Where were they going? IT was tempting... So tempting... A smirk creeped across her face. Why not? She twirled about in a circle, cackling. "With the wind, shall we go! Onward, once more to the breach, oh friends and foe!! Once more to the night!" she pauses, stands up to her full height, and points in opposite directions. "We go... THAT WAY!!" she calmed down, but continued grinning insanly, before clearing her throat and regaining composure.
((We shall see what Mr. Moss thinks of THAT!! Hahaaa...))

Moss looked at her, not amused. "I guess you wouldnt know where we are going" then why would she come? "we were going to investigate the strange green cloud, but the man I was asking got kicked out of the inn for putting crazy ideas the customers minds. Do you know the cloud I speak of? its a strange occurance around here. I wasnt sure if I was going to go, but then Suka showed up looking for a quest, and since she looked like her sister and influenced me to take this quest at such a coincidental time, I suspected it to be fated and probably led by spirits" he influenced the last part because Grey seemed of a less than believing state toward his stories and he wanted to show that he would not back down.

Varian crouched in the branches of an old tree. She stretched out her neck and extended her whiskers, concentrating on the scent of the green cloud. For a moment, time seemed suspended as she entered the meditative state that was taught by her people....there, in the north east, there was a faint greenish alien smell....she shook herself, and sat down on her haunches to think it over. She really had no reason to go after it, but she didn't have anything better to do at the moment.
She let out a high pitched whistle and moments later a 10 inch turquoise lizard appeared. This was Kallie's smaller form....she could also transform into a 10 foot long, razor toothed version of the her current shape. This could be very convienient if Varian needed to travel quickly by lizard back, but for now she needed to smell her way, so speed was not so important. At Varian's nod, Kallie crawled up onto her shoulder and they set off toward the north east.

"Yes! I believe I have felt a presence... It was green, you say? I wouldn't know... But strange...? Yes, that it was. And no, I haven't a clue where it was heading... Spirits, you say?" there was no sarcasm in her voice. "For the most part... Spirits and I haven't interacted, to my knowledge. If it is spirits that we are being sent by, then-" she paused as she heard the gleefull voice, and turned, hand outreached, just in case. She didn't have many offensive spell, and they weren't that powerful... But she also knew that he had a rather strong magical aura, which could be mistaken for a spell being cast... A powerful one... And then relaxed. What was the creature that spoke in such a strange tone, and then, in such strange tongue? Was that... Fear?

Moss looked up at the fairy thing and was silent. He was surprised, and didnt know what else to do. He decided to look it in the eyes but make no move towards it. Allowing it to look at him directly without making a move against it, but mostly, he just couldnt think of anything more apropriate to do.

Well now, wasnt this familiar? The first humanoids that Moss could remember running into were fairy's. They were the ones who had taught him so much about the world when he knew nothing, but they could be tricky dangerous little beasts and living that close to them had taken every ounce of wit he had to keep himself alive. They could be terribly deceptive at times and this fairy, though cute and innocent looking, could quite easily be trying to decieve them for her own means. Again, this was another strange coincidence and the language sounded nothing like Moss had ever heard. He needed to use all his concentration to make sure he didnt fall for this creatures trick.
"Be careful" Moss whispered to Suka and Grey "Keep your wits about you, your life may depend upon it".

Moss realized that his message to Suka and Grey may have been slightly more ominous than was appropriate for this first meeting but perhaps they needed to be a little scared, they might take his warning more seriously and they really did need to be careful now.
This fairy spoke with what seemed to be a genuine bad human accent. Perhaps these fairy's (he was sure their would be more than one) were of a reclusive sort. That would be to his advantage, he thought. Fairy's werent ones to destroy what they couldnt understand. They were curious and likely to try and figure them out before they decided what to do with them. Also fairys had trouble working together sometimes, they were always plotting and scheming to meet their own ends. His strangeness had been what had saved him, when he first met the fairy community, their desire to learn what he was overcoming their senses.
Putting clothes on in darkness? Weird clothes? Maybe she meant that they looked as if they were afraid of nudity, that they would put clothes on in darkness for fear that others would see their nakedness, that their clothes looked like they covered more than what was practicle and were ashamed of their own bodies. Moss was aware that he himself was over clad for such weather, probably because he was constantly on the move and needed to be ready for anything, and that he was slightly ashamed of his appearance.
If he guessed right, than that would mean that this creatures society was one without privacy, that they heard stories of human creatures and their repressed nature and thats what had jumped to this creatures mind first as it was the most remarkable thing about them to her society.
All of a sudden a thought struck Moss. The green sphere and cloud was probably some matter of hive for these fairy creatures.
Okay, be careful, try and think clearly and dont screw it up like with that man back at the inn
Moss lifted himself to a squatting position. "Yes we speak the toungs of human" he said carefully. That would be fine to say, since she had already heard them speaking, but he must not give away more than is necessary "what do you mean by 'put clothes on in darkness'? I do not understand" They might be dangerous, but this one seemed frightened, like she was in their power and he didnt think they were in immediate danger.

Ack! Crimony! Grey had no experiance with anything like this... She hadn't been around people for so long! Eeeh... Try something... Moss seemed rather uneasy with the situation. Better try something! "I'm sorry," she murmers, in an attempt to be soothing. "What is your name? What is wrong?" she is still on her guard, incase something odd happens, but she seems for all the world to be speaking as a child... Something she probably had been at one time... As if it mattered...

Wow... Grey sure sounded cold talking to the little fairy, but she had gotten further than Moss could have. Moss felt a pang of jealousy go through him and vanish.
He could now leave the leading part up to Grey. Moss had more experience with fae, but Grey had been put into the leadership position. This put her into the center of attention for the fae, and into most immediate danger to come, while giving Moss more room to observe and opperate his plans.
But is that fair? he asked himself you said it yourself, all life is equal, so whatever happens to Grey is just as bad as it would be if it happened to me. If these people are going to be your allies you should be willing to put yourself into as much danger as you are willing to put yourself into.
"Could we come along as well?" said Moss, standing up "That is, do you think we should?" he said, looking at Grey "she is your friend"
Oops, he had just forced Grey into the lie.

Oops, he had just forced Grey into the lie, indeed. Grey was not in the least hostile to the tiny fae, but dare she go so far as claiming to be an ally... And more, a friend?! Friend... The word that meant so much to some, but Grey knew for the most part it's definition... But somewhere in the deep recesses of her mind, there was something that said she had friends. Sometime or another... Moss had looked at her. She could tell that much, but what was his game? Why did he place her up at the front... And above all, vouch that Grey was Letti's... Friend?! Frustrating! That was the word for it. She could think of several others... But decided to leave them out for she had the distinct feeling that such language may not be spoken, and in certain situations... Thoght. This was probably one of those times. She inwardly sighed softly, and her concience (a small, silver eyed little creature with angular features and sharp, prodding fingers) gave her a sharp jab, only to be ignored for once. It grumbled dejectedly for over an hour after this event, before seating it's self in a corner and glowering mutinously. "I will follow... You say this Ragos is in there?" she waited. Moss might not want to come, and she had settled on him as a sort of rally point for whatever the quest was. If he truly didn't want to go, she wasn't sure she would... "I would speak with Reina, and with you. Might you tell me of this Ragos?" Well, she hadn't spoken a single lie yet... That was always good.

From Zolah:
" You can feel a faints smell of creatures moving towards your way, soon a small party and a fae flies past you ( Rehiro & co) they are moving towards the green orb. but you can see something else too from the tree tops, there is someone watching them. a pair of yellow eyes that narrow themselfs in a tree, soon it moves away. hard to see but you think you saw some wings too. "
Varian was stretched full length along a tree branch, whiskers thrust forward, quivering. She could still smell the small party that had passed by her, but she was trying to get a better scent on the mysterious watcher.
The party that had passed was very interesting...quite an odd mix of people....fairy, kitsunea, zombie, and...was that a treeborn? She had only smelt one once before, when it had visited her clan when she was a kitten. But she had no idea what the other presence was.
The group that was travelling together was heading towards the green dome, as she was herself, and there was safety in numbers. She had been alone, except for Kallie, for quite a while, and she yearned for some intelligent converstion. And they mght not know of the being following them. Still, you never knew how people would react to a friendly greeting. She shook her head, and jumped down from the tree.

Moss looked at the green sphere and wondered what he should do. Should he wait until someone else went through so that he could see if it was dangerous? Nah, it was time to put a self sacrificing foot forwards, take a chance and hope to gain the trust of his partners. As far as he could tell, these people seemed to not have any bad intentions for him and he still felt guilty for the people that died as a result of him. He thought that he owed something to Suka for possibly cursing her sister to death even though it had not been proven. He wouldnt say anything, nor would he outwardly try and kill himself, for he still hoped to redeem himself, but in general he thought her life more important untill they could discover otherwise.
Nah, she had most likely commited many unnecessary deaths. It was the way of her people from what he heard. Perhaps his little speach on death had offended her and that was the reason she had turned against him. He had created an alliance with her, so that would allow him to work with her without guilt.... perhaps. Of course he couldnt know that she was a murderer for a fact and he certainly was not the one to put her life in unnecessary risk. But put her life before his? it was making less sense now that he really stood in front of a thing that might kill him.
What about the misterious Grey? It was very difficult to read things from what she said, or the way she acted so it was difficult to say if her importance went beyond his. She had not been particularly positive towards his theory on murder but that was probably just normal. She had been easy enough to manipulate for his own ends, for which he had been feeling guilty. Perhaps he had best return the favor by being the one to go through first. Perhaps he could gain further authority into the leadership position by putting himself first. He didnt think that he had lost any respect by putting Grey first that other time. It had strengthened his position because it had been him to do it. It had almost been like giving an order.
Did he want leadership? Maybe being self sacrificing now would help put him back, to a more comfortable position. Depending on how he presented himself, and how he reacted afterwards... if there was an afterwards. But he thought he might like being the leader, and he had managed to put himself into a lesser status in the eyes of the fae without putting himself into a lesser status in the eyes of his allies.
Maybe he should be asking himself why he always wants to put himself beneath the others. No, now was not the time. No, now was the perfect time. Now when it could be his last decision.
Moss lifted his staff in front of the others, stopping them from moving forward. "I'll go through first" he said and slowly put his right arm halfway through the shield before he heard a light thump behind him, like something or someone landing behind him.
fool, your completely vulnerable he thought to himself you fell for there trap, you cant make any sudden moves without losing an arm
Moss craned his neck to see the new comer.

"Moss! Look out!"
From the smell of it, it was a type of catlike creature. She whirled around, and seeing Valerian, her tail bottlebrushed in suprise. She immedialdly drew the twin swords from their sheaths in her sleeves.
"Take your arm out slowly, Moss-sama! (to Valerian) Are you searching for a fight? Or are you merely a traveler...?"

Post by Scarecrow on Oct 15, 2005 0:03:08 GMT -5
Grey turned towards the catlike creature, brandishing her walking stick somewhat akin to how you would a magical staff, but remained silent, awaiting it's response. If it was hostile, she would indeed have to reveal the nature of her abilities far sooner than she had hoped... But then, would the newcomer have the ability of True Sight? She hoped not, or her spellcasting might prove useless. Dammit! Why hadn't she reacted sooner?! This... Cat-creature, was it? didn't seem particularily hostile, but her 'sight' had failed her before... Was that another presense? It felt like it. Reenforements, then?
Wow. The presense was very strong... She could reach out and touch it... But she wouldn't. The fae-creature had mentioned that it could be dangerous. Moss seemed to have placed his arm through... Moss. Interesting name, she thought critically, even as she remembered she was not one to judge. What did it mean? She knew for a fact that names had power... Suka. Did it mean something in a foreign tongue?
Stupid!
Letting yourself get out of focus. Stay on topic... And then she realised the cleverness of it all. This was all some grand scheme, overseen by greater powers... Perhaps even greater beings... Or a game. A simple game in which her comrades and her were mere pawns... Perhaps Suka, who seemed naive and cheerful for the most part knew something, and this was a coverup... Nope. Not yet, you idiot! Quit assuming things! It will get you nowhere...
She readied herself for combat, just in case. A nice 'befuddle' spell would work nicely... Or perhaps 'Ghast'.

Suka tensed, waiting for what the cat thing would do. If they had met on other terms, she might have wanted to tweak this newcomer's ears. NO! She needed to banish all thoughts of friendliness if she were going to kill this girl. She had never killed a person before, and she really didn't know if she was ready...

Varian froze where she landed. The varied creatures before her seemed frozen, too...frozen on the point of attacking her! Even with her own internal warning to herself, she had not quite exzpected such a threatening response. Maybe they were bandits, or some such, up to no good? Her eyes passed over the group, until she did a double take at the sight of the little dark-furred, rabbit-eared man. His arm was sunken into the green dome before them.
"My! Is your arm stuck? How did that happen? What does it feel like? It looks squishy. Is it squishy? Did you know there is someone following you?"
Varian sat down suddenly and started washing her paw, appearing unconcerned to the best of her ability, but surreptiously sniffing the air to try and figure out which persons matched which smells.
