" In a forest called Rionn a large mushroom looking cloud appeared, green as the most beautiful emerald. It swooped (?) through the forest, It worried many. This was a phenomenon that wasn't so usual, well not usual at all. many didn't go to the cloud, cause they thought it may be poisonous or radioactive. some speculated it was some kind of biological poison from another country, but one thing was sure. that area would be sealed. soon enough the whole area was a forbidden zone.
after a few days after the big cloud started to disappear a large green orb was in the middle of the forest, it looked like a big green bowl that has been turned upside down. its was slightly transparent, through it you could see giant trees, and a large mountain.

Slumped over his drink, his large rabbit like ears drooped, Moss thought this seemed as good a time as any to pick up drinking again. He sometimes wondered if he was truly addicted, it wasnt like he couldnt live without the stuff, or even that it was normally very tempting, it was just that when the forest couldnt relieve his pain, drinking did. He had just been to a renouned fortune teller who had garanteed him that she could solve the mystery of his past, unfortunately all she was able to tell him was that an evil presence was eminating from his beloved staff before she fell over dead.
So with this new information he had visited an expert in the field of magical items to identify the nature of the staff. He gave the obese rat person fair warning of the dangers of the staff, but he had laughed condescendingly at Moss and assured him that there was no magical item too dangerous for him to handle, giving him a detailed list of all the horrible magical items that he had delt with. He had given the rat person the 12 gold coins he had found in an abandoned temple on one of his journeys almost as an after thought. On his trip back to the magic shop, he was attacked by a gun toting maniac wailing some nonsense about "treeborn". He ducked just fast enough dodge the bullet and did away with the lunatic with a flying knife to the throat, when he turned around, he saw the magic expert on the ground clutching at a bloody chest with one hand and clutching something in a tight fist with the other. With his last breath he had gasped the words "I saw this coming" to Moss. The grip on the hand not gripping his chest loosed and a gold coin rolled out. The coin had the number "2" on one side and the picture of a crouching rat on the other.
The number frightened him, surely this was one of the previously blank gold coins that he had given the magic expert and he had recalled giving one other to a small fox girl to sooth her temper back at the demon market, that would be the number "1" coin. He collected his stuff and left in a hurry, nothing bad ever happened when he kept his business to himself.
As if these things werent bad enough, he had been invited to a party thrown by the demon king himself, which was very odd as he did not think that anyone important knew who he was. He hadnt decided whether he was going to go or not. He wasnt good in social situations and from what he heard of party's it seemed the last place that he wanted to be. It didnt seem the kind of thing that you turned down though, however if he was drunk enough, perhaps he might just completely forget to go.
But the real trouble was that he didnt know what to do anymore, he had always felt that the spiritual world was all good and he had always felt this tugging, telling him where to go, it was what had brought him here, but now he wasnt sure whether all these supernatural forces were good. Perhaps these people needed to die, he wasnt exactly fond of most of these humanoids, but he was no longer sure. He didnt know if he should keep following his instincts and he wasnt sure what he was supposed to do about his vicious items.
The drink never failed him. He was only half through his first drink when a man burst through the doors of the inn screaming something indestinct. One of Moss' ears perked in expectation . After the innkeeper had gotten the man to calm down, he slowly spoke of a green sphere with people in it. Suddenly Moss stood up, turning to stare directly at the man "explain" he said "tell me everything you know".

Grey had been walking for days through the countryside and woodlands, and the small food supply she constantly kept with her was beginning to look more and more pathetic. Various darkfeathered birds flocked at her presence, some following, others staying put, as if watching for something to happen. Seemingly out of nowhere, swooped the strange green, cloudlike... Thing, and the girl blinked, unable to see what it was, but knowing that it was there. It dove off into the distance.
Presently, she came apon a smallish building.. An inn, perhaps. Silent, but the birds cawing quietly, the childlike entity slid through the door, donning an older persona as per her talents in illusions. A simple spell... But none the less effective. The man who had come in before her was shrieking about birdwatching and people in a floating sphere. Ignoring all the bustle, Grey chose to sit down at a table inthe corner. When the hubub died down, she heard, quite distict, of a green sphere... And then a second voice, not human... No... Not human at all... asking him to explain.
Then the magical energy came into light. Strong, it was. Terribly strong...But what was it? What was it's source...? Perhaps the speaker knew. One of her ravens fluttered to the end of her walking stick, now leaning against the wall, and flicked it's head in the new voice's general direction. Perhaps... He knew...

" the man looked at Moss, she took a dep breath"
- Well, you have problebly seen the green cloud in the news. It has dissapeard and now there is a large green sphere there, just when i was in the forest bird watching i heard some voices. i walked to the direction and soon i came to a green wall, it loocked like water but when i felt on it it felt like jelly. i threw a rock at it and it became solid as stone. and then... "he lowerd his voice" I saw a demon! It had large wings, two pointy horns. AND a tail that problebly would break a mans leg if they got hit by it! soon a man comes by this beast, he was tall and got a quite dark grey skin, pointy ears..black hair, he had clothes that looked like he was from a larp*! He looked at me and i started to run, he just laughed.... " the man shook his head, then he looked back at moss"
* Live roleplaying, its almost like roleplay just that you wear clothes and such as if you would be in mideaval ages.

Moss' emotions confused him. Perhaps he was drunker than he thought possible, for he felt anger and adrennalin flowing through him. He really wanted to reach up to the guy and beat his face in, but the man had been cooperative. When the guy spoke of the demon, Moss felt shivvers run up and down his spine and had he let himself, he would have fallen into a sobbing quivering mass. Moss didnt consider himself to be a violent or angry person, nor one to be afraid of the supernatural, but for some reason, he felt on the edge of panic. Giving one visible shudder, he suppressed his feelings and the moment of insanity passed.
He wanted to ask him more questions, he had most likely left something out, even if only a minor detail and unknowing to him. The man was in a state of panic, perhaps if Moss could persuade him to have a few drinks, then he would start to talk more freely. However, not spending much time inside human civilizations except perhaps in a drunken haze, he wasnt sure how acceptable it would be to just offer someone a drink, so he rejected that idea.
He thought it all through in a few hurried moments, he realized that the man was looking at him and he started to hurriedly search for some question to ask.
"Do you know where it is? would you take me?" Moss said just before he realized what a stupid and rushed thing that was to say.

A fox demon girl was sitting next to a tree in the woods, drawing nothings in the dirt. She glanced up from her doodling, and watched a treeborn and a man walk out of the tavern. hmmm... That looks interesting... She thought... She walked up to the shadowed pair, thinking that they might know the whereabouts of her little sister...
"Umm... Hello! My nameis Suka..."
She imediatly regretted this, judging by their reactions...

Idiots, they were Moss thought to himself as he walked out of the inn, afraid of anything they couldnt understand, no better than city dwelling humans when it came down to it, wishing to live in ignorance and stupidity. Anger and desperation gripped him, he wanted to panic. I cant think anymore he thought to himself I used to be able to see any situation from all angles, but nowadays I just panic he forced himself to be calm and walked out the door.
What he needed was some kind of spiritual advisor, all these stresses and moral conflicts were too much for a little rabbit man like himself to handle. Which direction had the man told him to look? he had been lacking in detail, had Moss used even the slightest bit of caution, he would have been able to figure out so much more.
A young female fox demon dashed up to him. Not good. She looked to be the same species as that other fox demon, the one he had given the coin to. He looked at her kimono, bad sign, the wearers of such clothing were often dangerous and upon closer inspection, she carried a distinct similarity to that other fox demon in apperance aside from race.
Was it possible that as a result of the coin Moss had given her, the little girl had died and these people had traced the magical remnants back to him? And now, as some kind of honor thing, this woman, relative of the girl he had accidentally murdered, had come to kill him?
"Umm... Hello! My name is Suka..." She said.
She seemed nervous, probably because she was afraid of the powers he had used to kill her relative. Moss moved his staff in front of him, and readied himself for her next move.
"Hello, my name is Moss" He said with noticable suspition in his voice.
He wasnt going to jump to conclusions, let her make the first move. He wasnt going to attack without proof of their enmity.

Her mind raced WhatshouldIdowhatshouldIdo?!
"*ahem* Umm... Well.... Niced to meet you!"
She smiled, but inwardly was killing her self for acting like such a freak. Why, out of all the words in the world, had she picked those seven!
"Well... Where are you going? If I could be of any help..." She said, and hoped that they would say yes. Looking for her sister was important, but it WAS boring.... And going on a little quest might help her find a clue about what had happened to Kcattah...

Moss peered suspiciously at the fox woman. What was her angle? surely this could be no coincidence, no one ever simply wished to speak to him. Especially not of the attractive female variety. Now all of a sudden someone who looks uncannily like the older version of a person he mortally cursed wishes to travel with him? Impossible, that was the word that best described it. She must have other intentions. But why did she look so... flustered? She didnt just look scared, she looked... embarrased? Anything she could do to help? She must have some kind of trick up her sleeve. He had to get out of here. Stalling might mean life or death, he quickly rethought his decission of letting her make the first move. His ears searched for sudden noises, his orb like eyes could see much, but he did not find a trap.
"So why did you choose me to speak to?" Now she should know that he was on to her, she might panic and decide to make her attack now. He created a barrier of mental energy behind him. Would that be enough to stop a bullet? no he was pretty sure that her people didnt use guns. "I do not mean to be rude, but it is somewhat unusual for a stranger to ask to journey with someone when they have no idea who they are or where they are going is it not?" Oh no, what if she was just... no! he could not let his mind stray there. He realized he had let his barrier down but he kept it that way. It wasnt the way of her people to play such a trick, and he was so nervous he couldnt concentrate "im not saying no, but I like to know something about a person before I travel with them" he said with a request in his voice.

"Well, you looked like you were on a quest... And I am looking for an adventure... You don't have to be afraid, I'm not gonna hurt you.... And judging by the magical barrir you just created, I couldn't."
(she can vaguely sense strong barriers, but weak or well concealed ones would pass her by)

Moss gave an exasperated laugh and made an ear splitting grin, showing many fangs. "You give me far too much credit, I doubt I could stop a fly from passing. I was just on my way to inspect the recent occurances regaurding the green cloud. I just got some recent information about the cloud from this man here, and though he dose not wish to return to the place, he has most generously offered to point me in the direction. I dont exactly know how far im going with this, and it may contain other worldly dangers, but you are most welcome to come along if you can handle yourself in a forest"
He no longer thought that she was playing a trick. From what he could remember, such tricks would not be accepted among her people, but he was sure that she was hiding her intentions.

Grey leaned in slightly, attempting to hear the ongoing conversation. Yes... One definately had a sense of magic about him. Sighing heavily, she releasedthe shrouds of illusion that concealed her sctual appearance: a grey haired, somewhat pasty skinned ten year old kid. With blank white eyes and slightly pointed ears, brnadishing a stick far too tall for her and clad in a cloak just a touch too long, almost dragging along the ground. Giving up on being tactful, or even inconpicuous, strides boldly toward Suka and Moss, stating in a suprisingly harsh voice, "Mayhap I could come." she stares, eyes blank as ever, up at Moss, whom she deems somewhat of a leader, at least at this point. And then, "Are you a... Spellcaster, then? What is the purpose of this barrier?" She suddenly appears slightly nervous, taking a step back, just in case. Inwardly slapping herself for allowing herself to act nervous, and on an impulse at that, she draws her four foot nineform to it's full height, she attempts to give off an aura of ease, and somewhat lasy attention. It doesn't work particularily well...

"Hold up in a forest! HA! I was RAISED in a forest! So uhh, Moss, shall we--"
She noticed the adorable little zombie girl ask politely if she could come. Suka didn't have a problem with it. She was just glad she was in on this adventure... She waited to see what Moss would say...

Was this the trap? Suka didnt look as surprised to see her as Moss did. Did she just use magic? That stare... that mind piercing stare was frightening. This one was dangerous. Perhaps the reason the samurai girl was so frightened at the beginning was because she was being used by this new comer. No, that didnt follow why she looked so much like Kcatta. Sukas expressions really didnt seem the expressions of a scheming manipulator, he had to admit to himself. This is probably just what happens in areas like this, you start to plan an adventure with someone and people start wanting to join in. This new girl seemed a powerful magic user, and she was probably confident enough to ask what she felt. Moss was the abnormality, with his fear of interacting with humanoids.
Moss noticed that she had spoken directly to him and that Suka had stopped talking and was waiting patiently for Moss to say something. Oh, crap, he had just taken on the role as leader. The concept thrilled him and stroked his ego but being the center of attention was not his specialty. For some reason however, he sounded completely calm when he spoke.
"You certainly have a way of asking awkward questions" he said "the answer to your first, less awkward question is, no, I am not a Spellcaster, I assure you that all magical powers I may posess are completely undeserved. I am a realm walker, travelling over other worlds, dealing with powers beyond comprehension and collecting magical items" Moss marveled at how awesome he had just made himself sound "as to your second question, the barrier is there because I thought that Suka here was going to try to kill me. I wont tell you why, not here, for she might just decide to kill me if I told". That would peak her interest... no thats not a good thing, why did he do that? "Perhaps you could come along, I suggest we converse somewhere less public however, um... hey could you show us to the direction of the green sphere?" he said turning to the man.

Deep in the forest, Varian Hookclaw of the Bloody Tooth Clan stretched herself languidly on a sturdy tree branch. She was a Felidae Demon, a cat like humanoid. She was a Pardalis which meant she looked a lot like a cross between a human and an ocelot.
Most Felidae were considered extremely dangerous and warlike. Their society had rigid ideas of what type of behavior was acceptable and what was not. Varian was the youngest daughter of the the Chief of the Bloody Tooth Clan. She had excelled at her classes...she knew 58 ways to kill someone, for example, but she had never fit in. Most of her time growing up had been spent with servants, who were much more loving and accepting than her actual family.
At the age of 15, she had run off to avoid her coming of age ceremony, which would have necessitated her killing her Blumbarg, which was a pet given to her when she was an infant. The idea was that to become an adult Felidae, you had to be cold hearted enough to do away with your own childhood friend. Varian couldn't do it, so she and her Blumgard Kalli had run away.
Suddenly, a huge green mushroom cloud appeared over the horizon. Varian blinked, and put out a hand to settle Kalli. Well, it had nothing to do with her, she tried to convince herself. Nothing at all. She just needed to find herself a job. She sighed, knowing that although she might fight it for a day or two, her curiosity would get the better of her. She settled back on the branch.

"Why would I try to kill you? Well, being wary is wise.... So... If she is coming, we best get going..."
She smiled. She had to admit, the little girl scared her.... Something didn't smell right... Oh well.... She was going on an adventure.... and none of tem seemed to know that she was half human, and-and if they did, they didn't smile. She turned slightly towards the forest, ready to go, waiting for Moss to lead the way.

((Mind piercing eyes? Cute little zombie girl? You flatter me. *grin*)) "Wonderfull," she murmered, as the raven preened it's feathers, "Where do you think we should go, then? To the woods, I suppose." the dark feathered bird shuffled it's clawed feet slightly, rustling it's feathers. "The trees themselves like to listen in..." It was a statement and not a question, spoken softly as a fallen leaf. She turned her blank gaze on the one named Suka, and the raven cocked it's head to the side. "You aren't entirely demon, are you...?" she pondered on the rashness of the question. Stupid, she thought, prying into others buisness... Jumping at the first oppurtunity you get... Should be waiting, yes... Waiting, in the woods. It was allways safe there... Noone could find her there... In the woods... "I shall... Meet you outside." She seemed to vanish, fading in and out of the slight breeze drifting through the open window, simply shifting slightly out of focus for an instant. What ever it was that she just did... It seemed utterly unintentional.

Moss looked around, apparantly the man had slipped off, probably put off by the conversation. He seemed one to become frightened easily, at least he seemed so now. Suddenly a thought struck Moss, the innkeeper wasnt speaking to him, he was talking to the man and that was why no one was trying to make him leave.
Moss thought over what the zombie girl had said. She had suggested the woods, which was an especially good move for Moss. She had said that the trees themselves listen, which was a definite truth. She had seemed both powerful and familiar with the secrets of the forest. Could she be Moss' superior? That would be great, perhaps she had come from the Worlds Beyond herself on the command of one of Moss' superiors to help him with his troubles. He had been thinking that he needed a spiritual advisor and perhaps the spirits had heard him.
He turned to Suka. "Yes it is always wise to be wary, but in this case there is a specific reason for which I thought you might be vicous towards me, we should get to somewhere more private and I shall share with you my tale, for you deserve to here it despite what you may do to me" What was her angle? She didnt seem very suspicious but these coincidences were too much. The forest being and this woman, they seemed almost unrelated but it was too much to simply be a coincidence.
Suka had yet again put Moss in the position of leader and he took it, moving ahead of her and leading the way out into the woods.

Suka's eyes widen:
"Y-you know her?! Where is she?! She is my half sister!"
Suka looks suprised I bet he knows where she is! I hope she's alright! Suka waited impatiently for him to reply...

He lit his pipe and took a deep breath. "You'll have to bare with me, some explanation is required for me to fully explain the fate of your sister" he drew on his pipe and looked at his feet. "More than two years past, I awoke lying on my back, with no memory at all and only my staff and the name 'Moss' in my head. I knew how to speak, how to hunt, how to fight, how to survive, but I didnt know anything about myself. On my travels, I came upon a temple, with many beatiful things, I began to feel in a perfect balance with the earth and all things on it, I felt at peace with all things and I was content, I came upon a bed and felt tired, so I slept. When I awoke, There was 13 coins in a bowl next to me that had not been there before. I accepted them as a gift, but at the time I didnt bother counting for I thought that these things were not to be questioned.
"I came upon your sister one day, she was going crazy and took a large chunk out of my side. I managed to hit her in the head with my staff and she calmed down" that was a lie, he had actually been stalking the girl, not with bad intentions, just out of curiosity. Moss had little to no respect for personal space. He followed the 'what they dont know cant hurt them' philosophy, but he wasnt going to admit that. He had accidentally tripped, one of his only mistakes, and bumped into Kcatta. "After she had calmed down, she had felt sory for me and helped me heal by bringing herbs from the forest. We shared tales and when it was time to part, I gave her one of the coins I got from the temple, all I know is it felt like what I was supposed to do. I said that it would ceate a link between us and one day we would meet again. It felt like the truth.
"Just recently I went in to see a fortune teller with a reputation for the impossable, I wanted to learn of my past, but all she could do was tell me that there was an evil presence eminating from my staff, before she fell over dead.
"I went to an expert in the field of magical items to see what was up with my staff. I gave him fair warning, but he laughed off my warnings. I gave him the coins almost as an after thought. When I was returning to pick up my stuff and get the analysis, a gun-toting maniak jumped out at me, hollering some nonsense about 'treeborn'. I ducked just in time to dodge the bullet and inserted a flying knife to his throat, but when I turned around I saw the magic expert on the ground, clutching a bloody chest with one hand and clutching this" Moss produced a gold coin with the number 2 on one side and the picture of a crouching rat on the other. The numbered side faced Suka. "With his last breath he said 'I saw this coming"' Moss flipped the coin to show the pictured side to Suka "his name was Zokoran, he was a rat-person".
Moss puffed at his pipe "so now im responsible for three deaths and I think I may have mortally cursed your sister". He looked at Suka "but if ever you do find out that I killed her, you have my permission to take my life".

Grey was seated outside, her ravens in the surrounding wood. She appeared to be listening in, as a curious smile... No, a ghost of a smile... Wound it's way across her pale features. Treeborn. It sounded vaguely familliar... Bah. Nothing. Only yet another of those base shards that wove the threadbare tapestry of her existiance. Sigh... What did it all mean? She knew, most certainly, that she was dead... She had a deep distrust of fellow spellcasters... And that if... Something was done, she might remember... Or even see. Yes... See. She could never remember a time... Even for an instant... When she had seen. People told her that her hair was grey, which is where she got her name... But other than that... The word meant nothing to her... Like so many other things... If you call a cat black, you'd might as well have said pink.
That one... The one named Moss... What did he have to hide? He seemed to be leaving something out... But what? Kcatta? A healer...? And what of these coins? Thirteen? As far as Grey was concerned... Thirteen was a number. Little else... Depending on how you looked at it. She knew, for no apparant reason, that thirteen was a number of power.... But also of misfortune.
Why was the... Half human girl afraid to admit her blood? Or was that merely her own senses... So limited... Deceiving her again? A small spider crawled along the wall next to her. She smiled again, as the little beast crawled onto her outstreached hand. Lovely creatures, spiders. Predatory, and wise beyond belief. Constructing their homes out of themselves... Somewhat vampiric, drinking the blood of their vistims... Leaving the husks to shatter in the wind... So powerful, and yet so delicate. a simple flick could send one flying... Not that she'd do anything like that. Many thought of spiders as bad omens... Creatures of evil... But in her own little way, Grey respected, and loved spiders. So beautiful... She placed her tiny friend on the wall, stood up, and continued to wait for her traveling companions, wondering where they'd be taken.

Ever since the little Zombie girl had left, Moss wondered how far away she really was. If she really did have powers similar to him, she might have just used a disapearing trick. He had used that trick more times than he could count. Once he had made it to the forest, he had tryed to reach his mind through the trees to find a source of magical power. He had just now succeded and he had an urge to yell out at her and tell her to come out of her little hiding place. He didnt though, as long as she thought he couldnt see her, he had something over her.
You brat! Your just going to stalk us arent you? Thats my thing! But i've never met anyone who could best me in a forest before, especially one like this.
He examined Suka, she looked thoughtful, she probably needed some time to think it over.
"There is innocent blood on my hands" Moss said "Only through life can death be accepted, and I murdered needlessly. Im a cursed man, are you sure you really want to travel with me?"

She steps towards them, confidently as ever, coat fluttering out behind her. "Aah... But what, praytell," she pauses, and her eyes seem to glow slightly for a mere instant... "What is truly innocent blood? Perhaps innocent on the subject that none of these... Accidental Victims... Meant you no harm... But what do you know of whom they truly were? Perhaps vagabonds... Merely excellent actors? And at that... Curses may nearly allways only harm you if you believe in them. Fear... Anger... All these give dark magic it's power... Or are you speaking metephorically?" This was another idiotic outburst. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid, she berated herself furiously, why can't you ever keep you trap shut?! Why I remember.... No, you don't. I've allways been this way... How can you know that? I... Don't. Hah. To die, which you obviously have, hence the lack ofgrowth in any way over the past who knows how many years, you must first LIVE. There WAS a time before this... I just don't remember it.
The pale girl shuffled her feet, but mantained the cold stare. "Murdered, have you...?" she wondered... "To murder, you must slay one of your own species. And for no reason, what so ever, or for personal gain... Not self defense..." She grinnied suddenly, and it is vaguely shocking, looking somewhat out of place. " I will travel with you... By the way... My name is Grey."

Moss lept to his feet. "So you are my superior" he said "from the Worlds Beyond". He was angry to have been challenged in such a way, but he was now afraid as well. He must have said something right, for she had decided to come, or perhaps she had no choice in the matter and she was just pretending she did. There must be answers to those questions. He thought racking his brain. He was so nervous it made it hard to think. "If-if life is not gained through a death, then it is a waste of life, it does not matter what species it is. To kill an insect out of malice is murder. All life is equal and it is not for us to decide whos life is more valid. By killing the man who tried to shoot me, I saved my own life, thus life was given through death. I was able to live. Beasts serve one another with there own lives, the balance is necessary. But to kill one for selfish purposes is murder. Old Zokoren died in a job that he knew was dangerous and could take his life. But he decided to take that risk, so that does not make me a murderer. I even gave him warning. Kcattah may not even be dead, but if she is, she was the first victim of my curse and I did not know what I was doing, but it is still my fault. I would not carry shame but I would be obligated to kill myself, still, I would have taken more life without purpose, in my existence then I had given, and thus my existence should be regretted.
"And one more thing I am cursed it is not of my imagination. Perhaps I am not a murderer yet, for things have been out of my control, but it is my existence that caused those deaths. If I now fail to kill myself, and more life is taken needlessly, that makes me a murderer because I had the power to stop it"
Moss swept a deep bow "My name is Moss and I believe you already know my history".

Suka felt rather ignored. He didn't even nod his head to me, and he is sweepinly bowing to this dead chick! *jealousyjealousy* And I don't really get all this death talk... Suka sighed, and stood up
"Kcattah is not innocent. She is as innocent as your curse is false!"
Suka tried to sound like she understood, but she didn't completely get it. She hoped she had not sounded stupid.
