I see that CTV doesn't have a donation button of any kind. I understand that Amelius probably doesn't want one there, for any variety of reasons I can imagine. But I've heard that it's mainly because she doesn't think she'd make any money! Now, I wonder what would happen if we, the CTV community, helped her set up a donation link, just for one month as a trial. If there's no suitable return, we can nix it.
I know I would donate, and I'm sure many amongst the legion of fans would as well. However, I'm just of the opinion that after producing such an amazing work for so long, she deserves a little something just as concrete in return.
So, Amelius and forumgoers? Am I way off base? What are your thoughts?

I agree with Momo on this one.
Amelius, you deserve some concrete rewards for this amazing comic. Putting a Paypal button up on Charby gives your readers the option of dotating if they so can/want to. Sure, some of us can't do so at the moment... but there are a ton of people who read CTV that aren't on the forums.. and might donate.
And really. Even if you only make $5.... You've made $5. Better than nothing. Go for the button, Amy. Your art is so worth it.

Well, I'm behind it in spirit. If I had the means or finances, I'd totally donate. If I REALLY had the means and finances, I'd max out the dang credit card. But... unless you'd not mind a few dollar bills sent to a personal address through the U.S. Postal System, I really couldn't do much. But I'm behind it in spirit!

Amelius' problem with a donation button in the past has been that she is uncomfortable with taking peoples money. Not that she dosent think she could get any. I still think she should put one up, she obviously both needs and deserves one. This topic has been put to the forum in the past and the results were... very disappointing. Large failure on our part. Unfortunately I am also currently in a position which dosent allow me to donate and im ashamed for it. If I could i would and I think that Amelius should put a donation button up but I would be unable to contribute.

Like I said. Not everyone who reads and loves CTV is on these forums. (Just look at the explosion of new members earlier when DrunkDuck went down). And again, if she only makes $5.. It's still $5.
It's not like you are demanding that people donate, Amelius. It is simply allowing those of us who would like to donate the ability to do so. Give it a month's trial? See how it goes?

Hehe, yeah I was considering it in fact (due largely in part to an ultimatum by my father but that is another matter ) but I think I may be most comfortable if I work on a basis of commissions as well, as incentive I suppose (though I really prefer doing things for free) but if someone is going to donate anyway I'll just give them something to say thanks too. Right now my biggest obstacle is figuring out how I'm going to put that on the site to start off...I'll probably make my own button for the deed though. Hopefully it won't come off as too pushy... And like I said, please don't feel bad that you can't donate, I'm glad that you support me any way you can, and the moral support has been worth millions to me ^_^

Augh! I'll never understand you Pisces. I've failed you. I've faaaiiiled yooouuu. But, yeah, I dont think anyone would object and its not like your mugging people. People who give will do so because they want to do it, not because they have too. And if you start making merchandise they're not going to buy those because they have too either. As long as your not charging people to read the comic, your not taking advantage of people (well, there are ways to take advantage of people other than not letting them read a webcomic but thats not what im talking about). And even then, they dont have to read the comic... buut then again... well, I dont know if that is or not but anyway, I dont think anyone would take offence at the idea that you are accepting money.

I don't have a lot of money, but... If you put a button up, I might find a way to send a little something... Just depends, cuz I don't have credit cards or nuthin, but I can send regular mail.
'Nother thought just occured to me...I recall suggesting in the past doing wallpaper wars, where people send money for each concept out of several, and the one with the most money at the end of the month gets made. All proceeds TO AMY OF COURSE, DUMMY.

I've seen a lot of webcomics with those things up (I'd be broke sending donations if I had a credit card). there's one guy who can at times live off of the donations being sent to him.

I get an allowance of $2.50 a week, and I'd be happy to give a large percentage! Just knowing that I helped is nice! Go for it!

I'm not sure if you are in the process of making this, but I still think this is a great idea.
You spend a lot of time and money on this comic and we as a community would love to help you. I think I am okay in saying that we as a community would be more than willing to give moral support and, when possible, financial support.
Wall paper wars are a good idea. I think CD's of your comic would not be to hard to make and be a big seller. Maybe even publish a few chapters if possible.
I know that one of your biggest complaints is the quality of hardware you have to work with. Both in your computer and accessories. Here is a serious proposal. I think it would be great for you to consult with Momo about a good quality brand new computer and any software and accessories you may need. Find out approximately how much it would cost. And then have a kind of public fundraiser for it, complete with one of those percentage bars with the total goal at the end. I bet you'd get alot of support from your fans...
So what do you think?
I know that I'm willing to help out.

You know if you are really having a problem with it you could start giving anyone who donates like $15 or more a T-shirt.....wait actually you could just sell T-shirts and forget the donations.

I'd buy CTV shirts, honestly. I've already purchased things like Homestar Runner shirts, but I'd love to buy some CTV items. See the other thread for ideas of what people want!

I think it would be fun to donate and I would definitely. Although, the amounts would be strange 'cause in Europe we have a different coin ^^.
5.00 Euro = 6.37780 USD (If I'm correct) So yeah, weird amounts. But Amelius really deserves it.

You know, one idea is to auction original artwork on ebay. The money could even go to computer upgrades if feeling uncomfortable with it is an issue, that way the money is going back into the comic.
