Sorry, if there's already a thread for this, but I haven't been able to find it...
I was wondering if Amelius has some sort of guide for Tony's accent. Y'know, words and sounds he pronounces differently and phrases he uses. It would be muchly helpful to those of us wishing to make fanart/comics/fiction where Tony appears. And I can't troll through the archives looking for examples of his accent, either ;_;
Danke!

I'm sure she will. When I went as Mannick for Halloween, I asked her for examples of how to do Mannick-speak. She came back with, like, a page full of advice. =) I'm sure she'll have similar for any other charatcer with unique speech patterns.

Goody! I really need the reference. An accent like that is hard to reproduce unless you've spent a lot of time with the character. I still have much to learn as a Tony-fangirl...

Alright, this'll be VERY useful, mostly so I can freak people out by saying it outloud.

Why certainly, post away!
Anyhows to get started in Tonius! First off, let's establish what his voice sounds like. He has a rather calm, even tone in his voice and though his native language is rather...shall I say gutteral in pronunciation (meaning quite a few words you have to sort of roll and reach down in your throat for) but he sort of smooths over it a bit, making him a bit hard to understand as he looses his voice a little bit (this is why he adds S's to things too) I wouldn't say he has a sissy voice, it is a little high (well he does have the vocal chords of a young boy after all) but when he is very upset, he gets a bit of a growl in it. Often when he's angry he forgets his English too. A good few cartoon characters to imagine would be any of the gangsters or young hooligans in old cartoons or if you ever saw the movie "An American Tail", a Don Bluth animate film...with Fievel mouse?(the sequel was more popular, Fievel goes West) he has a friend who has a similar accent to what I'm talking about, as well as a few pals who aren't so nice to him. I forget his name, but as I recall at least one of them says "youse" at some point. I'll have to check again but I do know they use improper grammer like that ^_^;; There's also a Bugs Bunny cartoon where he races the tortoise and hires a rabbit gang to beat the tortoise up before he reaches the finish line...yeah I know talking about it won't help so much. Anyways, know that he will transpose "youse" in place of almost anything along the lines of: You, your, yours, and modified: Youse'll, youse've and youse'd(you had or you would) for the case of you are, he just says youse is". Often times he will use "is" in place of are if he doesn't omit the word completely, mixes tenses in regards of"were" in place of was and vice versa, "what" in place of that. Examples: "What, is youse crazy?" "What was we's talking abouts nows?" "This were the wrong day to mess wit me..." "Hows about a hug for the hero what saved youse?"
The word "mine" will be in place of "my" at almost all times, (because it's actually "mein") He does have a tendency to mix his German with his English, but mostly small words like that and "nein" (he says no too but not as often) Ja (yes, which he also says in Eng.) nimmer, (never) and he pronounces all of his W's as V's. A lot of times he'll use "der" in place of the, but it depends on the subject. He may use it in one instance then drop it the next sentence: "That's der point mine friend. I see youse gots the rights idea nows." Sometimes he'll even refuse to modify a word like "they" and will instead say "theys"
On the ganster side of things, he tends to drop letters off of words (not all of the time though) for the most part it depends on how fast he is talking. With can become "wid" or "wit" in this case. Sometimes "their" will be der as well, there however will be the same however sometimes it is with a D (dere)
Now on to the S's! Tony will add an S where ever applicable, or every other word. He can go through a sentence without an S but more often he doesn't. If it sounds sloppy, then there's too many s's. I'll types out the example nows as I goes along. It'll goes along as every other word, ifs it's supposed to be singulars he'll states it as so (not always) such as" Are youse going to takes that bottle?" he won't refer to it as "bottles" in that case. His S's are partly a lisp of sorts but mostly it's because he still can't get a grasp on the language since he's self-taught. He can speak perfectly well in his own language though, just softly. Also, some Z's get pron. as S's too.
Alrighty, I think that's it but there's a lot going on around me so I'm a bit on the distracted side, I'll get back to youse wid more if it comes to mine brains laters.

probably I think too much ^_^ but yeah I do have a plan for everything! I forgot a few things too >_< Instead of "I am" or "I have" he'll say "I's" or "I's gots" "I's got to stop this madness..." "I's no idea why not!" "I's been sitting here all day."
For "We are" it's "we's" (like "we is") but sometimes he'' add the "are" or "is" for some reason. "we's is all mad here!" "well, we's are certainly nots impressed..." all so, if he likes to replace some vowels with E's: Jest (just) Beby(baby) ken(can) He also likes to mash words together like youseall, innits (in it)

Here's the PM I received from Amelius-sama, upon asking her about Mannick's speech patterns, reproduced in its entirety (except the bit about not being bothered by PMs). Also note that I moved this, so the Tony stuff would be more close together.
So, you'd like to learn Mannick-speak, eh? Well, for starters, you have it right that he does refer to himself in third-person. So typically, Mannick will use Mannick's name in place of anything referring to Mannick's self. Mannick also has a tendency to over-enunciate big words, choosing to separate the syllables. So big words that Mannick cannot get a handle on, like, "illiterate" he'll say "ill-it-oor-ate" (never said he pronounces it correctly though ^_^) Mannick generally, comes off as a bit naive but at the same time hiding some sort of intelligence that maybe he doesn't want anyone to know about. Mannick's manners in adressing others is rather odd too. Instead of learning names, Mannick will adress a person my what makes them unique or stands out to him. This will always be followed by the suffix of their gender, depending on age. Those near or under his age will be "boy" or "girl", accordingly older people will be "man" "lady" or "miss" or "sir" So an older gentleman with a bear suit will be "bear-sir", a little girl with a bowtie will be "bow-girl" A boy Mannick's age with a lazy eye might be "eye-boy" (he's not always aware sometimes having these things brought to attention as a label isn't appreciated) Mannick's voice sounds a bit young but not too young, if I could compare it to a cartoon voice right off the top of my head...hmmm...I can't think of any right off the bat, most kid voices in animation are annoying, but Mannick isn't quite that grating...A tad high, as he has a young voice, nothing scratchy or anything, think along the lines of 12-13 year old, and a tendency to talk in a rather...shall I say, baby-ish manner? when he's happy. Mannick gets really excited about things and if he's really happy he'll repeat certain words, like "hat-hat" or some other object. Any more pointers, feel free to ask! I dunno if I missed anything or not, but anyway that is wonderful to hear you are going as one of my characters, it is an honor for me! Have fun ^_^

Eeeeeheee! YAY! Now Is ken start mine STORY! ...und scares peoples at school, ja?
Actually, I've gots a decent German accent from mine X-Men obssession. (Daybreak <3s Nightcrawler, guess I have a thing for Germans...) But I noticed that Amelius doesn't really replace Tony's w-s with v-s, so now I know (probably so we can understand what he's saying, right?)! Also, the gangster accent confuses me. I need to watch American Tail again! Haven't seen it in years. I was just the right age to have seen that movie like, 15 times when I was small.
