How does the whole "karma" thing work?

Holy fudgebunnies~! How did you manage to get -8 karma?! Come on forum members~! You can do so much better than that. Give poor milknut some positive karma!
Karma is an annonymous way of telling a forum member you like them or something they've said. The "exalt" raises the karma, the "smite" lowers it. The higher your karma, the more people (or more times people) have voted that they like you or something you said. The lower the karma... Well, you get it.
Forum members start out with 0 karma. Votes from there determine their popularity. Admittedly, I personally am not fond of the Karma thing... but that's just me. I don't like 'popularity contests'.
You can only exalt or smite one person per hour.
Uhm... I think that's about it....

Some individual must be picking on Milknut. I never smote him. Has he done something wrong? I dont recall reading anything offensive.

I just exalted him as well. We'll see how his karma is. Milknut has done nothing wrong o.o....
Why pick on him?

Yeah. I don't see a reason for it. I wonder if there is just someone on the forum who likes to smite? I think it's only one person at a time targeted. Someone's Karma will just drop really low, until enough people work on that persons Karma. And then it switches to another person. I think that's what I've seen, at least.

ah, well when I set this up I didn't intend for it to be a popularity contest or a smite fest, but of course when I set it up we still had very few members and we all seemed to get along...I was hoping it wouldn't be anything to be taken personally, but I see it has come to this...so I shall have to remove it.(it just reminded me a little of DD, I was homesick and I wanted a way to give people kudos for cheering me up too) Now grievances shall have to be settled verbally, if someone is tickin' ya off, just say something to them!(nice though, no attacking) Hopefully they will stop that behavior, smiting behind thier back won't help...now I don't want to victimize smiter/smiters if they have an actual reason for it, but I just want youse all to get along and if there is something that is troubling you it can hopefully be settled...I'm searching for a word here...well fairly, we can reach a compromise. But until then, my little experiment shall end for now ^_^

I liked distributing exalts. I only ever smote one person (Mwahahahaha not gonna tell ya who or why though). Now I have to give praise again. But its sooooo hard and im sooooo lazy.
And you cant defeat me with nonexistant karma you silly little Shippo-chan. Life is a game of chess. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I win.

I only smote one person, as well. >_< But then I re-exalted him. I am such an idiot.
Of course I can! With hard work anything is possible--- Okay, fine. You win this round. *bows*

*shrugs* I only ever exalted people. It didn't strike me as a system that was exactly... accurate

Yeah I wanted it to be more like a "cookie" system...if there was a way that only staff could give them I'd like that better. Unfortunately nooo....but I thought the idea was interesting, I was just sampling what could be done in the forum. Kinda wished anyone who disliked it coulda told me sooner though... Cuz I do listen to opinions. I don't snap! ^_^

Ah, I remember your cookie system, Amelius (that was you, right?). I always dreamed of earning one, but the few times I did know the answer, I was way too late...

aww yup, DD let everyone who has a comic earn 1 cookie per update, and it was a bit like a currency in fact, you could save up your cookies to have low non-snipe votes removed and i you had a lot, buy platinum status for your comic. I just liked giving them away...you coulda asked and I would gladly give ya one though! ^_^ I wonder if that will ever come back though...

Yeah... I really always wanted a cookie from you! But I was a timid little creature back then, I'd almost never post! I was a bit of a wishy-washy-give-out-whatever-cookies-i-earn type...
