tis a made up word, it was the name of the food in the movie of the same title. IT was an olg Chucky Heston film where in the future, "soylent green" is the food to eat (the only food I believe) and someone discovers that soylent green is made of...."peeeepuuhl!" Which of course is where I got the joke, from the ever-popular line from the movie being (said in wailing voice)"Soylent Green is people! It's Peeeepuuhl!"

That is correct, but to add more detail, the company in the movie had soylent red and yellow first, and then they introduced soylent green. It was all supposed to made out of soy and plankton, but of course it turns out that they are using the bodies of people who sign up for government euthanasia. www.scifi.com/sfw/issue55/classic.html

Euthanasia is a painless death from administered drugs. It's what they do to a cat or a dog when they "put it to sleep". So, if someone is old or terminally ill, it's usually better that they have a dignified death than, say, go hang themselves.

Euthanasia is a painless death from administered drugs. It can be, but not by definition. Literally translated it means a "good death" But we don't use it like that. Short and long of it is: Unasisted Volentary Euthanasia = Suicide. Assisted Volentary Euthinasia = Murder and Suicide. Involentary Euthinasia = Murder. They're named differently because of the false connotations associated with the words "suicide" and "murder". And anyone who is totally against Eutanisa is either ignorant or a moron.

Oh yeah, and it's more socially acceptable because it's more widely accepted as a 'good idea' to euthanise someone who despraitly needs it then for someone to euthanise themselves when they arn't fully under control of themselves. One of the arguments against euthanasia is that for someone to "wan't to die" they must be mentially unwell and therefore not capeable of makeing that decision as they are not "fully aware" of the reprucutions. Which is an argument that dosn't hold up very well to scrutiny. Basicly it's based on the idea that "everything naturally loves itself and therefore wndevours to keep itself alive" which is proved immediatly wrong by the fact that it's not true. If someone commits suicide thay have already proved it to be wrong. and the argument is that you have to be crazy to want to commit suicide because you have to love youself and therefore try to keep yourself alive. Circular logic dosn't work, I'm afraid. I hope all this has helped clear things up for you
