Ok, this question is from my post at Drunkduck. Amy once mentioned that vampires can devour Ancients for their power. How much of Q's blood would an average vampire have to drink before he reached his level of power?

odd. Usually the account name is seperate from the name we see and that is the acount that you log into under. Take Amy's account name for example. As the Administrator of the forum it's Admin. But we all see Amelius.

Thanks for fielding this to the forums! Sorry for my delay in reply, I was experiencing some technical difficulties yesterday! (also sorry about your account! No worries about making a new one, if you want I can do something about your old account if you want that name) Alrighty, now on to explaining myself! (I was trying to find what I said about it in my author's notes but DD is being screwy right now, again.) For the most part, vampires feed on Ancients because it gives them a "buzz" sort of like drinking (or drugs I guess, I wouldn't know on either account!) but as mentioned, it can also give them an upgrade in their powers. I probably should have specified that it doesn't really give them all the Ancient's powers but a close enough approximation. If a regular vampire "spawn" which is the lowest level, let's say he's like MSPaint the vampire, drinks the blood of an Ancient vampire who we'll say is like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, he's going to get an upgrade to something like Photoshop Elements. He's got some nice features now but is still a watered down version of the original! If he drinks the blood of several ancients, he may get a hodge-podge of their powers and maybe he's more like the program Gimp now, lots of options but no clue how to do anything with them and can't even make vector shapes! ;D Oh wait that's kind of a stupid analogy but it makes sense to me! Basically, a vampire could drain every drop from ol' Q's body and only go from "spawn" to the equivalent of "3rd gen pureblood" which puts him in the company of Rodericke in terms of innate ability and power. He's no longer saddled with many of his former human deficiencies (like poor eyesight and such) and has more raw power at his disposal, but he probably won't be doing any mind-bending on Quixoto's level anytime soon. However, that's not to say they might not steal a few traits from their Ancient hors d'oeuvres. But it goes in tiers: Spawn can go to pureblood level, pureblood can go to an approximation of Ancient level. I guess you could say their power "stacks" on what they already could do, and in some rarer instances it may physically change a vampire in some ways. I can't really say it's like Kirby eating a foe and gaining all his powers, but when it's been a fresh meal and they are still on a buzz a vamp that's fed on an Ancient can be pretty dangerous until the buzz wears off. In the future we may even see a little of what becomes of this and how it effects both types. Most of the Ancients that have been killed in Kellwood were kind of the easy pickings.... remaining Ancients might not be so easy for vampire chumps to gang up on. Which is another thing I might point out, taking down an ancient is a dangerous task for a single vampire so very few of them would get to drink alone anyway! Perhaps Rodericke had other plans for Quixoto...

Ok, now you gots me curious. If it's not too spoilerific: Charby seemed to have no blood when he first awoke. I have this image of him locking up Q, sucking him dry, and returning every few days to repeat. I admit, it's out of character, Charby would likely gut him on sight, but would it be theoretically possible. (Not that capturing, let alone keeping one as a pet would be possible without tons of skill and luck). Would spawn get similar, although lesser benefits from a pureblood? N really seems to know his way around his powers. He's a bit too disfigured to be an ancient. Perhaps he drank from one? I think this has been asked before, but is a pureblood a cross between an ancient and people/another creature, or were they originally direct children of the ancients? Would ancients benefit the same way, or is it strictly heirachical? Wow I can come up with a lot of junk when I want to.

Thanks for the reply! A couple questions remain though. Would a vampire have to kill Quixoto to gain his strength? Also, what happens if the child of two spawn that ate their way to Rodericke's ate an Ancient?

Ooo hoohoo, how does amy answer without spoiling anything? Well let's see how I fare! To the first question, indeed it could be very possible! He would have to keep him well fed though... otherwise it would be like getting blood from a stone at some point. From a pureblood, not so much. Though they do have their own innate magics, let's just say that's kind of the difference between a soft drink that has 1% alchohol and something that is almost pure alchohol like (according to the internet) Everclear or Rum. Though I'd have to say, they may be a little more like a non-alcoholic beer (which still has some) and would need more than a few drinks to feel anything! 3rd Gen, like a soda, 2nd Gen, like a beer! (I talk about this alcohol stuff like I've ever drank any, haha!) About N.... *whistles innocently and wanders to the next question* A second Gen pureblood is the descendent of a demon and an Ancient, so we get these traits such as wings and interesting eyes like our departed Umatilla had. 3rd Gen pureblood are the children of 2nd Gen pureblood and humans. Generation is used very loosely here though, since it's not an exact just as Ancient isn't describing their ages. An Ancient-Ancient baby would still be labeled an "Ancient", while an Ancient-Demon baby is just a "pureblood". Though, a human and pureblood baby (depending on who the father is because if the mother is mortal it's a Dhampir) isn't always necessarily a pureblood. Their "human" blood goes waaaay back, and is somewhat considered "bred out" so only 2 purebloods can have a child that is still considered such. Ancients may be able to benefit, but they still hold some reverence for their kin that lower-tiered vampires do not. Regular vampires consider themselves removed enough that it's not cannibalism, just as they feel about humans. Drinking a fellow vampire's blood would be like chewing their already chewed food, but an Ancient is considered like a demon to them so it's not considered ABC food! Would they have to kill their Ancient to get their powers? Well, no, but it would certainly be the prudent thing to do! Haha, tricky question! 2 spawn can't have children, but if these two spawn had an Ancient snack before conceiving they just might be able to produce a vampire baby in at least 3rd gen status. (spawns in a way are the closest to being "cadaverous" vampires that may have magic to them, but they are more akin to the ghouls and zombies without the detriment of rotting flesh) This child would probably get the same deal as the purebloods: more powerful than the average pureblood but still not as powerful in terms of raw ability as the weaker Ancients (and there are some Ancients that picked the short straw!)

Okay, so... When they drink an ancient's blood, they get a buzz, an increase in power, removal of physical ailments, like eyesight, and in some instances, physical alterations. Do all of these things wear off with the buzz?
If Ancient + Demon = Pure blood 2nd Gen. and Pure blood 2nd Gen. + Human = Pure blood 3rd Gen. What does Ancient + Human equal?
This next question is a continuation of the last.
Could you elaborate? What would it be then, and what vampiric traits might it have?
If pure bloods are diluted, could they ever be comparably close to an ancient in power, if there was only one demon in their lineage, as far back as possible?
