I know that this is a question that's a bit late in the running story-line wise, but I was wondering how vampiric inheritance works among ancients. After all, we can see that when Charby was bitten by Quixoto, he was turned into an Elite, however, when Quixoto bites Victoria, it seems as though she comes back as a rather... normal vampire, without the whole regenerative mumbo jumbo going on. So I was wondering what that was really all about. In the thread about the types of vampires, it says that most Elites are sired by normal vampires, so would elitism be transfered from non-elites simply by chance? Or does the determination of who becomes elite have a sort of variable added in the mix?

Oh, there's definitely something going on that causes Elites to come about instead of becoming normal vampires, but that's something we may see rather soon so I don't want to get too much into it right now ^_^ So far it "appears" that what makes an elite happens "at random", save for the case of the Petrucci siblings at the hands of Adria. She knows something that the others appear to not know...and she even tried to mislead Zerlocke about it when she had Mye in her clutches! I don't wanna say too much about how Charby ended up the way he was and Vikky didn't, 'cus it's spoileriffic... but I've oft mentioned that the "Elite virus" doesn't stick around with the same person, and it isn't spread in a chain (Infected Vampire A bites human b; b becomes infected elite vampire and bites human c who becomes infecte elite and so on...) it's more like: Vampire A bites human b, human b becomes elite, bites anyone and they become a regular vampire. Meanwhile, another random vampire bites someone and that person becomes an elite...rinse and repeat! Whatever the "cause" is, it is either choosing vampires at completely random...or perhaps something is happening that infects them so that the Elite Virus is passed on? Speculate away! But anyway, any vampire or Elite vampire can make an Elite by accident if they are "hosting", but an Elite that "knows the secret" can make an Elite of just about anyone they please, or so Adria says... As for Ancients, what could be considered a lineage would only be through their children, which will share the same traits as their parents. They are typically only called ancient because of their long history and the fact that they were directly descended from the first vampires. Mixing human blood in there always results in a "weaker" creature, hence the loads of vampire goons that Rodericke has under his control. Victoria just had the bad luck to become one of those, as most of Q's victims would have if he'd not properly disposed of them in the past before they could "turn". I hope that answers the question, unless I was reading it completely wrong!

Thanks very much Amelius!
You answered every question and then proceeded to answer any questions I might potentially come up with later, but haven't yet. Very good precognition. Very good.
