Well that certainly made little sense. And where were they when the girl needed them. Sure this Frost character being here seemed little more than coincidence. Rafael didn't like it, but Kendrella seemed both awed and slightly excited. "Maybe they will." was all he said. His expression showed none of his thoughts.

Finishing his meal quietly, Marcus waited for Brittany to come pick up his plate. He stopped her before she could return to the kitchen. His voice was hushed, but not suspiciously so "Bri, you remember that pouch of dried petals and leaves I gave ya, the one marked Borage?" She nodded, understanding immediately his intentions. Still, he felt he should repeat the instructions, he did not want any mistakes. "The bandaged man, bring him a beer on my tab, crush two leaves and a petal and stir into the beer before you take it to him." She nodded and finishing cleaning the table before scurrying back to the kitchen. The doctor sipped from his tea, suppressing a small smile. The medicine was set, and soon the disease would be cured.

Serlina listened carefully, scowling. I wonder if he even realizes that I can hear him... she thought to herself. "Skiz...don't drink anything that comes, ok? ...I have a person to talk too..." she said softly, sliding out of her seat. She walked over to the docter and sat down at his table. She looked him in the eyes, and her anger was immediatly known. She didn't say anything, but she still had her dagger out, and her eyes were cold. If looks could kill....

Marcus looked up from the bridge of his cup, the woman's glare bringing him out of his thoughts and back into the tavern. He sighed, placeing the mug still half filled with tea on the table. She seemed out for blood, but the compass had not paid her any particular attention, so he decided there was no need to respond to her hostility in kind. He rolled down his sleeves as he talked. "May I help you miss?"

THe dagger flipped through her fingers. "I'm just wondering...what precisely you were going to serve my friend? I highy doubt what you were going to have put in his drink was something entirely...healthy. Now, I like to consider myself a very rational person. And I'm sure you are a fairly well balenced person. So, I assume we can talk this over like reasonable adults, yes? What exactly is it that you have against Scissors, hmm?" she said, her tone seeming bored. The dagger never stopped its flipping, thoug, and her neutral tone didn't quite match the look in her eyes.
Kendrella sighed, then sat back down and yawned. If i'm not careful, I'll fall asleep right here... she thought to herself tiredly. Blaze yipped softly, then leaned against Kendrella's leg and yawned as well.

Crossing his arms on the table top, he leaned forward in his seat, a patient look on his face. With a wry smile, he began talking the tone he usually reserved for petulant children who refused to take their cold medicine, patient but more than a bit condescending. The doctor was not usually this way, but something about this woman set him off the wrong way. "Borage leaves and petals, a tea herb, it's actually not a poison but an antidote against them, it's also known to reduce fevers." He stopped, taking a long sip from his cup. Setting it down again, he finished with a much more serious look on his face. "It also has properties which will kill him in more or less three minutes after consumption. I don't take well to phantasms terrorizing the children of my town."

"It certainly isn't the same," Chains agreed. "But you have no proof one was or another of my belief." He was phrasing his words carefully. His ears twitched as he heard the good doctor instruct the girl. Ah, so he had some training in the matter. Interesting. His thin lips twisted into a sardonic smile. "But I assure you, I was aquainted well with one-such-as-you-yet-not." He looked vaguely annoyed at that. He hadn't said it right.

His brief conversation with Chains over, Skiz turned back to where Serlina had been previously stationed. When tuned into the voice, he couldn't hear much of what was happening around him; the voice acted on a different level. He recalled something about not drinking anything. Where did she go- there!
He slunk over, more sliding than anything, curious. "Hello, again, Serlina. Wandered off, have we?" He didn't seem to have noticed the good doctor.

"Yer tired," Rafael said matter of factly. Understanding that with the weight of the world lifted off its not uncommon to be mentaly exhausted. "Didja have a place to stay here at the inn?"
He kept an eye on the going ons with the Doc. Just cause he wasn't fond of the Doc didn't mean he didn't like nor respect him. And whatever was going on looked like a potentialy unfriendly conversation
(((OOC: Well I'm not sure we can vote to change the rules of the thread. It is stonestrikes thread. Besides, it does allow people who don't post as often to keep up with the going ons with the tavern. Like Shippo and Rehiro who haven't posted in a little. There is always the potential to be left behind in one of these with several pages of dialog. Though It does suck when you have two more posts for the day and everyone has exhausted theirs....that could happen whenever though.)))

"No," Kendrella said sleepily.
Serlina looked up at Skiz and smiled. "Just having a chat with the "good" doctor, here. It proved to be...most enlightnening. The man thinks he can poisen you. Intriguing, no? I don't think he understands that children who don't learn to be afraid of the dark are often swallowed up by it," she said cheerfully, standing. The dagger was discreetly slid back into its hiding place. "Goodbye, doctor. It was most...delightful...chatting with you," Serlina said, walking back to her seat.

"Where were ya plannin ta stay fer the night?" Rafael asked.
He wondered what was going on. The doc didn't kill people. There was something about the bandaged stranger that the doc found dangerous. And the Bandaged fellow's allies were just as dangerous. He made sure to pay special attention at what was going on.

Nodded at the departing woman, his tone mockingly friendly "I found it delightful as well." His face slipped into its accustomed professional mask, the same expression he wore when performing delicate surgery or setting broken bones. "Now then, I guess that just leaves you and me to talk like civilized beings, or at least something resembling that." He reached behind the chair, picking up his now dry umbrella and setting it on his lap. "Let me state my side of this, clearly and simply, so that their can be no mistaking my grievances. The children in this town need not fear the dark in this town because I make sure that it may not swallow them, as my family has done for generations. Your presence in my town is a blight, and I intend to cure it. Either leave peacefully, or stay in a much less peaceful manner."

"...I didn't really have a plan..." she said softly, eyes closing.
Serlina paused by her chair, trying to decide weither to stay seated or to find out what was going on with the "good" doctor and Skiz. She was indecisive, and fingered the hilt of her dagger more than once. Swiftly, she checked to make sure she still had all of her weapons, then she reached into the neck of her dress and pulled out the small crystal bottle she had there. Tapping a small amount of the dust it contained into her hand, she moved towards the shadows of the room. Whispering a single word once she was there, she faded away and became invisable. She slunk along the shadows silently until she stood behind the doctor. She laid a hand on a different, much more deadly dagger than the one she had been flipping through her fingers, and waited. Her career as an assassin had taught her much in patience...and in undetectable invisability.

When the assassin took her position behind, Marcus felt an itching sensation on his chest on the area over his left breast pocket. Sighing, more than a little annoyed by the distraction, he made a move to check his watch while waiting for the boogey's response to his ultimatum, masking the movement as an act of impatience. Flipping open the watch, he didn't have to look at the compass to see what caused the disturbance, the enchanted clock face telling him all he needed to know. According to the clock hands, his life expectancy had just been incredibly shortened. Quickly pocketing the watch, he refocused his eyes on the bandaged man before him while his mind worked through alternatives to his current situation. Could the boogey be the cause of his reduced life span? Remembering the young woman, his eyes darted across the room, not seeing her anywhere. He calmed himself with the help of the Thyme tea he had drunk earlier, opening all his senses, and results came from his hearing. Suddenly, he leaned forward, kicking the chair behind him hoping to catch the would-be assassin with it. Grasping the handle of his umbrella, he twisted it until he heard a clicking noise and drew a long thin blade, discarding the top part of the umbrella that had acted as it's sheath. He wished he had the gun hidden inside the coat, but it was in the back of the chair. He also hoped he would not be alone in this, the town's people trusted his methods of curing what he considered diseases, and he had even earned the grudging respect of Rafael, even though he knew the other man would never admit this. But most of all, he hoped that no damage would be caused to the tavern, he was a friend of the bartender and his family. "I'll say it once, nicely, put the blade down and go with your little boogey friend out of my town. We don't take kindly to murderers and creatures who have nothing better to do than cause children to become insomniacs."

"Whaaa- waitaminnit. I just come out of hiding now and EVERY bloody person I meet knows who I am? This this is just wrong." he scowled, and nearby shadows shivered, gathering closer to him, as though protective. The darkness takes care of it's own. "Nothing better to do?" Scissor practically hissed, standing up straight for once. The nerve! Very few things could bother the boogeyman, and the good doctor was close to being added to the list. If the idiot took the time to ask nicely for the boogeymen to leave, then there would be no need for poison! No need for deceit. He knew fully well how hypocritical it was for a boogeyman, one who relied on trickery and shadows by nature, to hate deceit... But there it was.
He grinned, exposing those distressed, daggerlike teeth in a mockery of a smile, while shadows writhed around him. "It's not that we have nothing better to do, you know," he said in his true voice, in tones that made one think of closing coffins and crackling leaves, "We feed on fear... It sustains us..." He suddenly seemed to be composed out of pure shadow, a faint light peering through his blindfold as he attempted to peer into the doctor's mind. "...What of you, good doctor? What frightens you?"

"Stay down!" Rafael whispered to Kendrella as he stood quickly and turned just as the doctor kicked in chair back and drew his weapon. Rafael noticed the shadows moving and noted that the dagger wielding woman was no longer where he thought she was. He also noticed that the stance of the Doctor was strategicaly at a dissadvantage if the boogie was the only one he was worried about. The situation over by the doctor was getting tence.
"Is the good doctor stirrin up the rifraff tonight?" Rafael said distainfully. He walked a little closer nonshalantly but not nearer to the boogie. Angled strategicaly for the boogie and where the doctor thought the woman was. Whatever was going on Rafael knew it must be bad for the doctor to draw his weapon. "I thought I was the only one allowed to do that." Buy a little time and maybe distract the Doctors attackers. He was sure he was fast enough to take out the woman with a good shot, but not before she let out a fatal dagger and only if he could see her.

Serlina yawned and reappeared with a florish, leaning on a nearby table, holding up her poisened dagger and examing it. "Perceptive, aren't you? Most people don't notice me until it's too late," she said idlely, her eyes flickering over to the docter. "Put that thing away before you hurt yourself. I'm only here to make sure my good friend Skiz is heard out before he is chased out of town like a criminal," she said softly, replacing her dagger into its hiding spot.
Kendrella looked up and saw what all was going on, then put her head back on the table. "Blaze, take care of the half-elf," she said softly. Blaze barked in understanding, then went to stand in front of Serlina. he sat in front of her and turned to look at the others, growling softly.

Even the Thyme and his resolve could not suppress the cold shiver than ran down his spine at the boogey's voice. He reminded himself it was all mind tricks, that the fear was not real, and he knew that bandaged man would sense the inklings of fear that where pushed down to the fringes of his psyche. He scowled, raising his saber farther from where he expected the assassin to be and more toward the boogey. "Don't play those games with me, I am not a playful man." His concentration was broken at the sound of Rafael's voice, and he answered as nonchalantly as the other man without relaxing his pose. "I'm sorry to intrude upon your field of expertise Raf, but this one has been causing trouble with the children, and his friend, who should be not all that far behind, says she sees nothing wrong with that. Apparently, she is willing to violently defend that viewpoint." When Serlina reappeared he smiled in her direction out of the corner of his eye, his focus still on Skiz. He half-complied to her 'request', lowering his blade but not sheathing it. He looked at the boogey expectantly, ignoring the dog of the girl Raf had been talking with. Raf was a good judge of character in most cases, and he was starting to have doubts of his judgment of the assassin if someone Raf had deigned to be cordial to was siding with her. "Fine then, Skiz. The 'lady'" he said the word as if it where a joke "says I should listen to you before tossing you out into the rain." His grip on the saber stayed firm, and he was listening carefully to the half-elf's breathing. He did not want that blade to so much as graze his skin.

Moss had been paying attention to the tense situation with a new interest. Something had just occured to him. If he couldnt kill himself through conventional methods, then the only way he could do it would be to use himself up. Fulfill his purpose. He didnt know what would happen after all the coins were taken but it was getting obvious that some violence was going to break out and if people were going to die anyway, why not use up some coins?
It seemed to him that he was being dared to kill himself. He had been put in this tavern full of people who would all kill themselves so he could finish his task without having to feel guilty. In fact, if they were to die anyway, he would be saving the lives of all the people who would die otherwise did he not act now. Surely he would die after his purpose was finished.
No, that was just wishfull thinking. He really didnt know what would happen, but he was so depressed from being seperated from Suka, so tired of carrying this burden that he just wanted the pain to end.
He reached inside his coat and found the pouch with the coins "No, Nezumi, I very much doubt you could help me find what I want". He looked at her now for the first time. He felt peculiarly full of life now that he had made the decision. Before he had been living dead and could not see anyone in the tavern as they really were. But he saw Nezumi now. How was he going to use the coins? Just spill them on the ground. The spirits knew what they were doing. He had confidence in the fact that they could accomplish what they desired.
But before he could make his move, an image came to mind. Suka. she had told him he could fight these things. Had made him feel like he could. She had brought him from the darkness of the staff. He remembered the reason he had come back was because he couldnt leave her alone in this world. But she was gone now, and with these forces around him, he would never be able to obtain his wish to be with her. He would have sold his soul to darkness for her.
His hand remained unmoving on the pouch. He had to do this. Obviously it had been set up so that he would be able to do the right thing and take the lives of people who would die regardless of his action in placement of the innocent lives of small children like Kcattah. But he had to act now. He needed to put aside his emotions and get it done with. It was his obligation.
But he couldnt press Suka from his mind. What would she want? She wouldnt want him to kill himself. If the coins killed him at the end, then he would be leaving her alone in this world. He couldnt fight her influence. He took his hand out of his coat without the coins.
She had broken, dominated, saved, weakened and strengthened him without even being anywhere remotely near him.

"Oh by all means continue." Rafael said, "It'd be nice ta see the good Docter causin trouble instead of baratin me fer keepin the peace." He wondered what magic this bandaged one had that would keep the docs attention like this. The doc showed more interest in the bandaged one than Serlina who was obviously stealthy and decidedly deadly with her daggers.
"Now what kinda trouble is this fella causin to the children and that Serlina is willin to defend to the death?" This was more of a general question to everyone. He spoke casualy, but chose his words carefully. If things did get hot it would be a fight to the death and Rafael would do his best to keep the doctor alive. For the sake of the village of course.

Kendrella stood and walked over to Serlina and Blaze. "...do you remember me?" she asked Serlina softly. Serlina looked at Kendrella, eyes blank. Then, it dawned on her. "Kenny! I haven't seen you in ages! You were nine when I last saw you. You've...changed.." she said, looking concerned. She reached up and brushed Kendrella's hair out of her face. When she saw the scar, Serlina's eyes hardend. "The ones who did this to you. Are they dead?" she whispered. Kendrella nodded. Serlina glanced at Skiz, the doctor, and Rafael, then decided that Skiz could probably take care of himself. she put on arm around Kenny's shoulders and steered her to a table, sitting down where she could still see the others, and focused on the daughter of the woman who had taught her so much. "What happened to you, Kenny?" she asked. Blaze stayed where he had sat, watching the men warily.

Chains had been watching the scene with growing irritation. That was IT. The whole scene was disgusting, and as much as he loathed becoming involved in such matters...
He stood up. Quite abruptly. Walking over to stand in front of the doctor and Rafael, he reached out a bizarre, four-fingered hand and laid it on the doctor's shoulder. "Stand down. We will talk about this matter, no force, no violence." He turned his head slightly, catching Skiz's eyes with his own yellow, lidless gaze. "All of you are overstepping the line."

Rafael watched Chains carefully. He sure seemed to like to involve himself with everything. Calming Kendrella, getting rid of Sera's body, and now trying to ease the situation. Not that Rafael minded, just an observation. Rafael noted the consern in Serlina's voice and didn't think Kendrella was in any danger. He did think he was taking a risk allowing his back to be towards serlina. Still, the bandaged one was magical and might be the bigger threat.
Rafael just shrugged. "Not shure what yer talkin bout there. But the doc here seems ta think that this fella here is disturbin the peace of the city. I'd like ta hear what all that is about actualy."

The doctor was passionate about his work, but he was not a fool about. His tense shoulders had relaxed slightly when Serlina had moved away, but it returned hundred-fold when Chain's hand touched them. He refused to acknowledge the creature's dominance of the situation, but he was not fool enough to ignore it, so instead he spoke with Raf while picking up his umbrella top and re-sheathing his sword. "You know how the children have all been downcast lately, their eyes have been bleary from lack of sleep. Widespread insomnia like that is no coincidence." He picked up his coat, righting the chair it was slumped on and sitting down on the table besides Chain. "Our bandaged friend here is a boogey, a night stalker and dream haunter. It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together. Our other friend here, well, I have no knowledge as to what he is. But if he says we're talking, then I suggest we talk."

Nezumi looked at him curiously. He had seemed to put his hand in his robe for a reason...
"What are you doing, Mister Moss? Umm... I mean... I ..." She screwed up the courage. "I really think I can help you! I mean, I haven't been a bounty hunter for the last five years for nothing! I can track people, I could... I could even take one of the coins."
Her eyes blazed fiercly. Why am I doing this?! she thought, annoyed, and then answered herself. Because it's the right thing to do. I gotta help this guy! I just have to! She clenched her fists.
OOC: I just realized... Nezumi has met Suka before. O.o as a little girl. Interesting.

Chains grunted. "Yes, a booeyman. They are a fairly common phenomena. However, one rarely reaches a level to pose a real threat to a child or children. Especially one spread out among an entire village as such." Chains frowned, his ears twitching. "Plus, our friend Scissor mentioned that he was having no luck scaring the children, and that he had been evicted. I do not think a boogeyman was the whole cause of this strange malady, merely a scapegoat. Of course..." He turned towards the boogeyman. "I am not the expert here."
