AShton shook. "Oh no...not more fighting..." he whispered, backing away from the door.

Rolf stumbled and nearly fell off the branch he was standing on. He jumped to a more hidden area and continued to observe.

"Are you friend or foe? Come out, I won't kill you... Unless you're the one I'm searching for."
He pointed his spear at where he suspected his observer hid.

AShton couldn't stand it anymore. His new friend might be in trouble, he couldn't just stay here. Ashton took a few steps outside, towards the man, blinking. His wings fluttered nervously as he walked past Tatters, indicating how scared he was. However, if there was trouble, he could always fly out of range..."He...hello..." he said softly to the man.

Rolf jumped down to a visible branch. He remained calm even though it was really hard. "Sorry, I thought you might be one of the ones after me. Who are you?"

AShton chewed on his thumb, hesitant to reply. He stared at the stranger with wide eyes, partially hidden by his hair. His wings flapped nervously, stiring up small gusts of wind. He didn't know if he could trust this man...

Rolf was silent for a moment. His messy hair blowing in the wind revealing for a second his scarred red eyes. "My name is Rolf. I can't tell you much more because frankly I'm not sure myself."

(OOC:Sorry that my intro is so long. ) Nychus had been out hunting for a week with nothing to show for it. He wasnft dressed up much, dressed in a brown pants, old leather belt, faded leather vest, and a dirt stained shirt. He had is long sword to his side, handy when he needed to clear brush, and he had his longbow strung up and across his shoulder. He was lost, but he knew where he was, just head north until you hit a road and follow it to town. He knew that road was about a week or two away and town a few days farther, but it didnft matter. He was frustrated, this was the longest he had gone without so much as seeing game, even if he found something he couldnft carry much back. Probably spend three weeks for only a few copper pieces. It was at this moment of frustration that he had a brilliant idea. Use his rune magic to help his hunting. He flipped the pages of his text carefully looking for a way to enhance hunting skills, he found a section titled animal sense. Sent of a wolf was what he checked on firstc.it was there, but he didnft have the components. He flipped some other pages before finding sent of a fox, he smiled when he realized that he did have the components for this spell. He studied over it and thought it was very strange, why would a spell to enhance my sense of smell be this complex. he thought. Like most complex spells this one was four dimensional, requiring spatial knowledge as well as careful precision and completion within a certain timeframe. He had started making camp earlier and breaking it later just to work on it. It was the most complex thing he had ever worked on and he was determined to complete it. Finally he had it finished, a gold disk medallion with extremely complex runes covering the front and back, a leather strap through it so he could ware it as a necklace. He gathered all his stuff together anxious to be on his way and try it out. He held the medallion and spoke the activation words. Instantly he couldnft breath, he fell to the ground gasping at nothing, he felt his form shift, he closed his eyes tight wondering what was going oncthis was not right, what had he done wrong. When he felt his body stabilize he opened his eyes and marveled that he was still alive, it was still hard to breath and he realized something heavy crushing him. He kicked off his backpack then took a long look at hiscpawscO_O He sat trying in stunned silence trying to piece together exactly what happened. He examined himself the best he could, apparently he had been changed into a fox. He had a grew back, yellowish underside, a white tip on his tail and was a little larger than a red fox. There was no sign of his cloths, sword, or bow. They must have melted into this form with me. he thought. After a bit of contemplating he figured this might be fun. He stashed his backpack best he could, sniffed at some buckskin he had on his pack, and went hunting. It was the perfect plan, run until he found a deer, change back, shoot the deer, then head home. He marveled at all the smells, a strange mixture that he could barely separate let alone identify. The sounds too were clearer than they had ever been before. It didnft take long before he got the sent he was seeking. He followed them about a mile before he found them, two deer in a meadow. He grabbed his medallion with his paw and barked the activation words and waited. Nothingc.he tried againc.nothing. He panickedcthis was not rightc.he ran back to his pack and struggled to get to the right page. Was the translation wrong, was there a different activation word to reverse. He read over and soon discovered his mistake. First, the section wasnft about senses it was about being the animal. Second, his medallion was only half the spell, it worked only one way, and he would need to make a reverse half to attach to itcWith material he did not have. He whined in horror at the realization. He couldnft stay like this, humans hunted foxesc.he hunted foxed. If I saw myself right now Ifd try to shoot me he thought with horror. But he had no choicec. cthat was several days ago. Days spent dragging his pack the best he could, struggling to figure out what smell was what so he could try to eat something. He was scared, desperate, and starving when he scented something familiarckind of like a human. He saw a track, poked and sniffed at it. It wasnft very big, maybe a child. With foodcand maybe spell components. He didnft like the idea of stealing from a childcbut he didnft see much of a choice. He didnft know what to docwhere there was a child there were adults, he didnft want to be skinned and used as a hat or a vest liner. He whimpered at the thought. He made up his mind, stashed his pack close by, then started following the trail.

Nychus leaned against a tree, eyes closed, and concentrated on even breaths through his mouth. The wave of nausea soon passed but he waited a bit more just to be sure. The headache wouldnft go away but the dizziness would die down with the nausea. His senses were killing him. How Ironic that wanting better senses caused this problem in the first place.
His sight was fine, by far better and a bit more sensitive to movement. He was lucky his vision was still in color, though at this moment luck wasnft on his mind.
His hearing, which was exceptionally keen, would pick up the slightest sounds for great distance in almost a 360 degree range. But he was used to flat ears so couldnft discern distance or even direction of a sound. Not to mention he couldnft figure out exactly what was making those sounds. At first he jumped at nearly every sound, fearful of ending up somethingfs next meal. That had since gotten better, but it still kept him up at night. He had gotten very little sleep lately and his exhausted bloodshot eyes showed it.
His sense of smell was doing the most damage. At first he had marveled at it, but now days later he hated it, A mixture of thousands of smells all assaulting him at the same time with little to no way of telling what was what or even trying to follow one sent. It was like walking in a perfume shop where all the bottles had been sprayed into the air, just trying to pick one out of the mess gave him a headache. And it was constantcbreathing through his mouth helpedcbut just a bit.
To make matters worse his throat was sore and raspy because he hadnft drank anything for a while, and he was starving. Both new feelings. Oh he had been hungry before, but never starving, and thirsty too, but not to the point where he would give almost anything just to satiate all that. He was also cold, on the point of freezing, which was extremely ridiculous especially considering how thick his fur coat was, he knew how much it was worth (knowledge that was very sickened to him) and there was no reason to be cold.
He sighed, then scratched at a burr caught in his fur and cringed as it tugged his hair. Stupid seeds, and he had been covered in them for at least two days now. He knew he probably looked mangy, how did foxes clean themselves anywayche wonderedcdo they lick themselves like cats? He looked at his mud stained legs and figured it wasnft worth trying.
never give up he told himself softly almost ready to do just that, this may be my last chance. It took some effort to make himself ready to move on. He scented the air again, it was strong, recent, so he had no trouble picking it up. He followed a bit farther until he heard voices. He crept to the edge of the plain and quietly surveyed the area, completely focused on the task at hand. Four beings, all talking to each other, seemingly strangers but making with the introductions, talking, familiar sounds. More importantly there was a door and it seemed that most the people were facing away from it. This might be his only chance. He crept around and waited, a young boy with wings and horns was the closest to the door but soon took a few steps forward, he was still too close, but had his back to the door. Nychus listened for a second, then satisfied that there were no more voices coming from the door he made a mad dash. In the open he might be seen, but he was fast and quickly dove down the stairs. It was then that he realized one of the familiar sounds was a rivercwith waterc.he cringed, but it was too late. He hoped nobody saw him.

AShton turned around in time to catch a glimpse of the fox. The grass had told him it was there. And it was in need of help. Ashton like foxes. They were playful, and wild. He liked to watch them. He went back inside, looking for it. He wanted to help.

Nychus gave a soft curse as he heard someone follow him. Bad, very badc.he had to hide, but where? He got to the wide room and quickly looked at the various halls. Which one? was there an open door anywhere? He sniffed quickly to see if that could helpc.just a jumble of unfamiliar dank smells, no help, he felt a bit sick again but ignored it. Hearing someone get closer he took off down a random hallway in a near panic.

"No wait! I won't hurt you..." Ashton said, crouching down in the hallway the fox had gone down. He held out his hand, hoping the fox would come near. "Do you need help, little guy?" he asked, his voice soft, soothing. He had gotten many wild animals to trust him with time.

Nychus ignored the soundc.instead running harder. His heart beat fast and he could barely think. He noticed none of the doors were opened and he was quite visible. Also visible was the fact that the hallway was a dead end. He froze in terror and turnedche watched the boy and looked for a way out. The hallway wasnft widec.but it might be wide enough to run around the kid. Nychus tried to think of a way out, not of what could happen if he was caught, all the while frozen in placec.

AShton didn't move. The poor thing was terrified. "SHhh...it's ok, i'm not gonna hurt you...you hungry?" he said, reaching into his pocket. he had a little bit of meat left from the jerky his father had made for lunch before they were seperated. he held it out for the fox.

Breath Nychus told himselfc..a quick dash around the kidcI might make it. He knew it was the meat once the scent hit himcboth familiar and strongchis mouth stayed dry from dehydration, but his stomach growled. Maybe I could take the food and run. He thought...He slowly inched closer to the kid. Keeping his eye on him, trying to make sure the kid had no tricks. He still shook with fear but hunger was quickly drowning it out. be quick he thoughtcas he slowly moved closer.

Ashton stayed as still as he possibly could. He barely even breathed. He held out the meat to the fox, watching as it slowly approached. It will try to run after it has the meat... he thought to himself. All animals did at first.

a little closer Nychus thought. He kept his eye on the kid, telling himself that it wasnft a giant, couldnft be older than 8 or soc..Oh I could have turned myself into a wolfcor a bear, a lioncmaybe a tiger, but noooc.I turned myself into a pathetic fox. He thought anciently letting out a soft whine, he ignored the fact that he only had components to turn himself into a fox. close he thought, inching his way slower and slowercmouth open to grab the meat. His eyes quickly darted to the left, a bit more of a gap there. got it he thought, clamping his mouth on it time to get out of here he shifted his body to the side ready to bolt.

Instantly, Ashton unfolded his wings, blocking the fox's escape route. He swiftly, but gently, grabbed the fox with his freehand, still holding the meat with the other. He let go of the meat and wrapped his arms around the fox, standing. (like you would hold a baby, kinda, but with one hand resting on his back so he couldn't jump away)

gnonononoletmegoletmegoletmegoh Nychus howled, eyes wide with terror as he squirmed, struggling to break free from the kid, maybe a good scratch or a bitcanything. But the kid was too strong. [Some adventurer I would have been[/i]Nychus whinedche imagined boasting in the tavern how he got lost in the forest, turned into a fox, and eaten by an eight year old. His eyes burned with humiliation as he used his last strength to squirm in vain.

"Now, calm down. I'm not going to hurt you. But you do need help. You're nothing but skin and bones," Ashton said firmly. "What kind of fox are you?" he asked, looking it up and down as best he could, given the fact that it was trashing about. "You should't be this skinny, I've seen planty of rabbits in the forest," he continued, confused.
(OOC:Wait, can Ashton understand what Nychus howled? Can he speak in his fox form?)
