"Plants aren't people, Ashton," Sybil said in a low voice. "They have different requirements for what 'nice' entails." She gave the impression that her ears would be lying flat against her skull, if they could.

Ashton frowned at that. "Plants are better judges of people than people give them credit for," he said angerly, sounding more mature than his ten years warranted.

Haruko stayed over by Rolf. He would feel awful guilty if the man was evil, and had an accomplis who was waiting to hurt Rolf. Anyways, Sybil seemed to have it under control.

The stones on Fletcher wrists grew brighter than ever. As he pulled his snip down from his shoulder and sat it to the ground, his other hand opened to reveal the orb again. He was ready to defend himself if neccesary. " Ashton, whats going on?" Fletcher asked as beads of sweat began to form on his brow.

"As long as Ashton has plants near him, he's safe" Rolf said not even turning his head away from the water.

Sybil growled and tried to herd Ashton back, not trusting the glowing stones or orb. This was magic she hadn't come up against before. "I can speak for myself, man-thing," she snapped. She hadn't been quite this paranoid with the others, but she had been hungry, and they had shown quickly that they hadn't intended to hurt her. However, now that she was on edge due to the demon attacks, and now that there were others to protects, she couldn't bring herself to lighten up on a stranger.
To Ashton, she said "I trust your judgement, kiddo, but not everything's black and white. I want more to go on than a plant's word."

ashton twisted away from Sybil and ran away from them both. "Why can't Sybil just trust me?" he asked, almost in tears now. The plants all huddled around him, some how conveying displeasure at Sybil in how they hunched around the dragon child

"Ashton, wait!" Sybil half-turned, seeing the boy's distress. Something in her chest tightened as she realized she had hurt him. Damn she hadn't meant... she didn't...
She almost ran after him, but her instincts wouldn't let her turn her back on the new man. She kept a sharp eye on him as she waited for him to show some sign as to whether or not he could be trusted, but glanced nervously towards Ashton a couple times.

Ashton's new plant-pet run on its roots out to Sybil, shaking and waving its leaves as if scolding her. "Planty-friend says that you should be ashamed of yourself. It says that plants have been here longer than people can remember, and they have learned a thing or two about judging others. It also says that you sould learn to trust the plant-speakers," ashton said dully from the middle of the plant huddle.

Sybil flinched back as if he had hit her. Part of her mind was furious. What was she, taking that kind of sass from a kid? Why did she even care? Just because he was so much more.... precious than the aggressively independent children in her own clan.
But she couldn't set aside her paranoia. She didn't know anything about this man's magic. But she didn't know much about anything besides grammer. She eyed Fletcher, unsure, and began to back away slowly, the realization of how little she knew about other cultures hitting her rather hard.

Nychus had barked in alarm as Ashton suddenly jumped up and flew across the lake. He had called him back but Ashton had ignored him. Nychus ran to the edge of the lake wondering what it would take to swim across as he watched Syb fly across after Ashton. He thought he could see someone, a person, over there, he could defiantly see unnatural lights. He pawed at the water as he heard syb's Squawk of alarm, He didn't know if he could swim...no time like the present to learn. He thought worriedly. Something was going on over there, he could hear syb in the far distance snarl and demand Ashton get behind her. Without farther thought Nychus ran into the water and started running/swimming towards the other shore where Ashton and Syb was.

As Ashton aproched, Fletcher lowered his arms and the jewels went dim once again. He angrily glaired at his attacker as he said, "It looks like you got your own body guard." He obviosly felt more comfortable, but still very much on his guard, in case of more danger from those still beyond them. His had just caught sight of whatever it was swimming across\around the lake. He looked straight at Ashton and said in his low voice, "Great, more friends?"
(OOC: When I say "those beyond them" i mean Haruko, Nychus(who is aproaching) and Rolf, though he doesn't know it yet. )

Nychus swam a little faster than he thought he could. Aparently the doggie paddle is more effective than he realized. But he was starting to think he made a mistake. He could see the lights ahead of him in the distance but everything else around him was a darkness blacker than black. He just foccused on that light and kept towards it.
(OOC: By fly I meant that Sybil moved really fast....yeah :sweatdrop: Nychus: um...theres nothing living in this water right? Me:Shhh, don't think about that.)

Fletchers eyes scaped to the nearing fox not sure if more danger was coming. "Whats going on ." he said evidentally wanting to escape from the situation.

''Well help me tell them I'm not a threat, Ashton," Fletcher said as he posed himself so he did not look ready to fight. "Why are you here disturbing me? I have been in this cave for the past 2 years by myself, minding my own business. You are the stranger to these caverns. "
(OOC: Sorry I did not clarify whom he was speaking to, it was sybil)

"Helping Rolf," Ashton replied, standing up. He flew over and landed in front of Fletcher. Behind him, the plants moved to form a screen between Fletcher and the others. "FLETCHER IS NICE! LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Ashton shouted.

"I didn't meen to startle you,"Fletcher said as he pushed Ashton to his side. He reached out his hand and parted the plants that laid in front of him, and stepped towards the others.

Sybil fidgeted, tense and uncomfortable with this stranger being so friendly with Ashton. He didn't even have the respect to address her directly, and was instead talking mostly to the child! It didn't make sense. "A stanger, yes, but all the more reason to be wary of possible dangers that I may not recognize as such." She spoke bluntly, but her voice had less fight and more doubt.

Nychus Crawled out of the water onto the shore dripping and sputtering. He glared at the stranger, ears back, teeth bared, and between coughs tried to Growl menacingly.....probably didn't have the intended effect.

"Nychus!" ashton protested. then, he did the only thing he could thik of to do to get his friends to leave his new friend alone. He promptly sat down and wrapped his arms around Fletchers leg, clinging to him. "Leave Fletcher alone!" he said again.

Sybil closed her eyes and sighed, slumping out of her defensive posture. She was defeated. By a kid. What was wrong with her, to make her so pathetic? She walked over to Nychus and crouched down next to him, running a hand through his fur. The fox was suddenly quite a bit dryer than before.

"Aruu" Nychus barked in confusion, Looking at Ashtons display. He no longer tried to look agressive but had his head tilted with his ears at odd angles to each other. He felt his fur dry and looked questioningly up at Sybil, hoping someone would explain what was going on.

"It's all right, boy," Sybil said dully, still in keeping with the 'don't let people know NYchus can talk' rule. "Ashton says the plants like him." Her tone was bland, but her suspicions stirred in her chest again.
