Maybe it's a ghost train that magically comes to life at night? That'd be super neat.

My my that's a strange train to find out there. A little research tells me that that train belonged to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad company. However i cant find much more information than that.

NightWing: Thanks! We usually do have a good time. lilac: You know lilac you might be right. We went back to take some more picture of the train and half it is gone now including the chemical filled car. I wonder if someone in the parks or maybe CVSR saw our photos? @odin: Thanks Odin. I'm impressed you even found out that much. The part is in Cuyahoga County so that sounds about right. We'll update if we find anything else but I think this is one mystery which will probably remain unsolved. I wonder if CVSR is even still around?

Well, if Amelius ever runs out of ideas for Charby she can always have an arch that takes place in a haunted train. Psh, you and your ''logical'' explanations. Obviously half the train is missing because the ghosts didn't like you snooping around on their turf. So they moved half the train as a warning. Oh yeah.

Considering the equipment on that rig the machine is probably being reclaimed for sale or something along those lines. Though it seems strange to be taking it now since it's about 17 years since it was abandoned.
Those chemicals look like hydrolic and/or motor oil to me though so thats possibly why they were moved but again why so late afterwards?

Spooky. It's hard to believe that train is still sitting there after all that time.

Ah, so you guys are over in the Ohio/Michigan area eh? I do so look forward to going back to a temperate climate. California is too warm for my tastes.

Whoa. The haunted train is definately appearing in my story. As is the phrase "doombuggy." That must've been such a fun adventure you two had! Will there be any more soon? (Right, right, it wouldn't be an adventure if it was planned

lilac: Makes sense. @odin: I think lilac probably has the best theory. My backup one though is they moved it for liability reasons. nekocat86: Yea I know what you mean. Waker: Yep we live in Ohio though I one day hope to by flown to california to discuss as possible Cwen's Quest Movie. ^_^ Falvee: Huzzah I'm glad to be an inspiration. New adventures will be posted up weekly. We have lots of adventures. Though I can't promise they will all be as interesting as "the old train tracks".

Welcome once again to Adventures with Amelius. These are the REAL adventures of Nicholas J.G. Stroffolino along with his faithful side kick and wife Amelius as they explore, adventure and photograph their real life journeys and events! Last time our daring adventurers had just explored the haunted train after following ye old train tracks. On their way out off in the distance our plucky heroes saw a strange bridge off in the distance join us now for......
Today's episode: Bridge to Mystery dun, Dun, DUN!__________________________________________ June 13th 2009
Tracks go across the bridge. The beams don't look stable. The bridge has grape vines growing all over it. I don't think it could support my weight much less a train. Tempted to try it anyway but better judgment prevails. I'm not looking to add a Darwin award to my list of accolades even... especially not posthumously.
We walk up and down the river till we eventually find a place to cross without getting too muddy. Lucky for us it hasn't rained and rained and rained some more this month...oh wait. In our seach a find a piece of drift wood. When I step on it cracks open and spills out dozens of baby snakes and one angry mama. Amy wants to prod them with a stick. At my insistence we make a hasty retreat. After it is too late I realize I should have taken a picture.
I'm glad to see the park system is worried about people in the river falling any further into the water.
Eventually we get across. The tracks are almost lost in the grass. Nature has been hard at work here. I hadn't expected this and was wearing shorts. I pull up my socks and hope or the best.
What is Amy laughing at?
By the look of things this area doesn't get too many visitors.
But all around we see signs that something used to be here.
Eventually we find a railroad switch.
One section leads behind that fence. Booooooo fences!
The other goes off into the weeds along the river. After all our hard work to avoid getting muddy crossing the river we end up getting our shoes muddy following it anyway.
The track along the river ends abruptly. Looks like the river swept away the rest of it long ago.
So back the fence. Doesn't look like there is anything there worth fencing off.
Unless someone wants to protect weeds the size of your fist.
Seriously the weeds here are huge.
And there are these wierd plants which only seem to grow around where old junk is rusting into the ground.
I wonder if they just look this way because of all the rust which ends up in the ground warps them or if they need some something which washed into the soil from all the rust to thrive. Strange either way. Seems like something you would hear about in a post disaster story.
Eventually though we catch sight of more then just weeds in the fenced off area.
Though they fail to shed any lights on the mystery.
There are signs a building was here.
But everything here seems pretty dead.
Finally we come to a spot along the fence where we spy something of interest.
Reminds me of something steam punk with all these gears. I don't know what this made but I'm willing to bet it made a lot of it.
It takes some time but eventually we get a good look at from end to end
Geeze it would be nice if just for once these things had a sign or something.
Oh.... "Jaite Paper Mill. Before you is the site of Jaite Paper Mill. Opened by Charles Jaite in 1905, the paper mill grew into a sprawling factory that employed as many as 250 workers and produced up to 8 tons of paper daily. By 1927, the mill introduced four drinier machines to allow production of a continuous web of paper, which was used to make multi-walled cement bags.
The factory closed in 1984. Hazardous conditions led the National Park Service to demolish its buildings in 2006. The National Park Service left the four drinier machine in place to allow for future interpretation of the site. Additional plans for the site include restoration of natural habitat."
Well okay....that is one mystery solves (kind of anti-climactic) but....future interpretation and restoration of natural habitat? Couldn't you just say "We don't know what to do here?" Unless they are keen on growing freakish rust plants in the park it seems like this would be a good spot for a museum or a nature center.
Well so much for the bridge to mystery. I guess that is it for this adventure.
However we take a different way back home and encounter...
The BARN OF DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! End Journal. So tune in again next to Adventures with Amelius for the twin Adventures Barn of Doom and The Keyless Locks!

I was about to say that it looked like an old textile mill..until you had to go and make sense out of it. THANKS A LOT EEN.
Those rust plants kind of remind me thistles.
But who knows? Maybe you found a secret space alien experimentation site or something. Only I don't like to think about aliens. They give me the willies. D':
Anyway, that location is really cool. I love sites that are full of architectural ruins with wildlife growing all over them, especially from the Industrial Revolution age. Gears make me happy. I need to practice drawing them more though. DX
I shall eagerly await part two! :3

I know EEN, you totally ruined it by finding that sign. I recognized those machines and was gonna tell you what they were. Alas, now I can't look all smart-like. Anyways, don't come out here to California! It's all hot and stuff. Not like Toledo, with it's overcast skies.

Whoa, I wish there were all sorts of cool things to explore where I live. A lot of that stuff did look post-apocalyptic; you could probably film a movie out there! (Plus, oh no, the barn of doom! Barns, abandoned ones anyway, can be scary places, full of owls and spiders and ants the size of a fingernail. And all of these things want to get ya.)

kanidasha: I'm infatuated with her too. We buy most of our clothing at discount stores and goodwill actually. You just have to shop around. As for her hats she usually buys them plain (which is generally the way they come in stores anyway) and then customizes them with craft store type things. lilac: Well they can't all be mysteries I'm afraid. If it helps there was no such sign at the Barn. Demon: I just call the puff balls. Waker: Actually we are just between Cleveland and Akron. Toledo is actually a few hours away right on the Ohio boarder. doodlesthebear: I would love to film a movie around here!

the freakishly large weeds look like Amaranth to me... its a health food but grows into the weirdest shapes... I love your outfit too... wouldn't say infatuated though Its so not fair some people get all the mysteries... the biggest mystery in my area is figuring out who was daft enough to put graffiti on a tree in the middle of a forest...
